Posts: 1713 07/18/2008 15:35	It arrived today and is a very good profile of many Colorado Tyers. The book is printed and bound in the US and is a very pretty production. It's a large book printed on heavy, high-quality paper, hence the 69.95 pricetag..... I would recommend it.

Posts: 369 09/04/2008 17:30	Have been meaning to say a few words about Todd's book and have just been to dam lazy, but I've started back through it and must say his work is very well done. Others have mentioned the artwork and paper quality but the one thing that struck me was the somewhat personal approach to each tyer. I'm not from Colorado and really have no connection , other than I have a Granger or two around the house but again as with Micheal Sinclair, Todd has shown us the rich history of Colorado fly fishing in ways we could never have seen on our own. My gfriend even found interest , which provoked discussions about the who, whens and whys of fly development. Todd great job and my hats off to you for an outstanding effort. The dedication and work shows. Scott Whitman

Posts: 840 09/07/2008 14:46 Moderator	I finally picked up Colorado Trout Flies and couldn't agree more with what's already been mentioned about this latest offering ... Hosman's book follows in the vein of Ed Engle's (Splitting Cane) and like Scott said, "the one thing that struck me was the somewhat personal approach to each tyer." While the dust jacket reads, "The East Slope of the Colorado Rocky Mountains is home to an extraordinary concentration of accomplished fly tyers, perhaps the greatest in the world", this shouldn't be interpreted to mean that the greatest tyers live in these foothills, but rather that the concentration of accomplished tyers is extraordinary ... and, as with leatherneck, I can think of others (Scott Marshall, Dave Collier & Dale Darling, to name just a few) that would have fit nicely into Todd's book, but then again, had Hosman exhausted the aforementioned concentration, 'Trout Flies would have rivaled Tolstoy's, War and Peace in length. As an aside, I was recently fishing with one of Todd's tyers (Mike Price) and during the course of the day, I jokingly asked Mike if he wouldn't mind autographing the tailgate on my Toyota ... shaking his head, Price said that he couldn't believe that out of the handful of flies he had turned over to Hosman, the latter chose to photograph and include (p.172) one of Mike's 'altered' Pink Ladys ... which, while it would certainly catch a creelful of trout with its 'trimmed hackle and crooked rib', more resembles a wench than a lady! All kidding aside and despite his reservations, Mike is one fine tyer and his Royal Wulff, much like Hosman's book, is something to behold ...
