Don't have any experience with this rod, but as many will say; You need to try a few lines to find what works best for you.
A good starting poin is the Cortland Classic Peach, I would try a DT4 and a WF5. Try the Cortland Sylk as well. If you have a local fly shop, see if they have lines you can try, most will. Pete

I think that if Orvis rates it as a #4, they intend you to use a WF4, so I would try that line too.

I have an Orvis Seven/Four, which was rated by Orvis for WF4F line. It is not the same rod as yours, but I think Orvis correctly rated it -- WF4F line is
perfect for it.
Of course, not all WF4F lines are created equal. I prefer the Orvis Superfine line over their Trout line on my rod. Your Penns Creek is faster than the Seven/Four, so it should easily handle a heavier 4 wt line, including the Orvis WF4F Trout. If you have an Orvis shop nearby, I am sure that they would let you lawn cast different lines on your Penns Creek. |
