I have a rod that I stripped off the old varnish and then rewrapped with a Gossamer Antique Gold and tipped it in Black.
When I gave it the first coat I had what looked like a stain on areas of the thread. It seemed to me to be contamination.
So I took of the thread and cleaned up the rod section and rewrapped it again. Again I had the appearance of the same condition.
I know that I cleaned the blank and wiped the guides and winding check with alcohol to remove any grease. My hands were washed.
What am I not doing that I should be doing? It isn't a great rod, but I would like to make it as nice as I can for myself.
Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this situation.
