What actually happened to kill off the old FFM Virtual FlyShop site ?

Brian, What Spruce said is correct!! Lot's of the original members broke off of it though and started their own site at http://flyanglers.org/ which is

Sorry guys.. I wasnt specific enough... I meant - what really happened to the auction site provided by the FFM ? Whats the true word I didnt get ?

I was a constant there from 95 till shortly after it was hosted by the Outdoors Best site in 02. Intermedia, the parent company of FFM felt the website
didn't provide enough revenue and made the decision to pull the plug on it. It was suprising and invoked a lot of anger to all involved with the site and
probably the worst decision made associated with FFM. The Virtual Fly Shop BBS quickly outgrew AOL's FBN flyfishing site which was one of the first and
anything else on the net that was flyfishing related. FR&R started their own BBS website because of the popularity of the FFM's site, but it has
foundered along over the years. FAOL grew at the Intermedia incident. Lots of folks who were a constant at the Fly Shop BBS moved on else where. Me - I
migrated here when Clark started this site and stayed permanently when The Fly Shop made the move to Outdoors Best.
FFM really broke a lot of new ground in the beginning with it's BBS and it was probably the most popular fly fishing discussion board ever to be on-line. The auction site was the off-shoot of it's free classifieds site was designed to give folks a fly fishing audience to auction of unwanted gear. The auction site just couldn't compete with the Ebay giant. When the plug was pulled on the actual FFM hosted VFS site and the migration to Outdoors Best initiated, the auctions didn't make the switch over. The BBS was what gave VFS it's wide spread identity, the auction page was just an off shoot. Cane

As one who was there from the eginning Ken has it right. I am still there and mod the boards. Ross Purnell came over from FFM and is still there. the auction
site was very minmal in terms of traffic compared to the bulletin boards. When they created an "Off topic" board that included politics all hell
broke loose. Guys that got along for years began to argue with each other until a seperation came about.

Andre - I still have a couple of those VFS "identify" patches someone made up to help id VFS BBS patrons on the water. Everyonce in a while I pop in
and see some folks from the early years still handing around.

Brian, You can go to several boards and pick up really good deals on equipment Fly Anglers On Line has a sale and wanted board, Fly Tying Forum has a sale
section Check them out you might be surprised. Fatman

I loved the old auction section of the old VFS website. I picked up a great custom rod by Patrick Sterling (sorry ~~ it is plastic rod) for a great price.
Doing something like that again would be great.
After the change to outdoorsbest I stayed around for awhile ~~ better not go there...
