I am considering the purchase of a RHW 3 3/8" Perfect that does not have the circular line guard. Don't know what vintage and would welcome any help
here. It has a ribbed brass foot and no obvious pins attaching the spindle to winding plate. The name on the winding plate is in three rows of text. Top_
MADE BY, middle_ HARDY BROS. LTD., bottom_ ENGLAND. The size is marked in two rows of text. Top_ THE PERFECT, bottom_ 3 3/8". The letters JS are on the
inside of frame and on the inside of winding plate. The click tension adjustment acts on only one of the two pawl springs. The design of the click tension
mechanism looks almost exactly like a modern lightweight series reel.
Now the question. Can the reel be converted to bias the click tension for LHW by either reforming a spring or by machining a new click pawl to cam the spring more during payout rotation. Since there is no screw, locking the spool to the spindle, can the spool be adequately retained with a drop of blue Loctite on the threads? Is the spindle shaft thread RH or LH? I would assume RH as this would tend to tighten when the winding plate was rotated in its intended direction.
Thanks in advance,
Gene
