The Maine Gathering of Cane Rodmakers will be held on the banks of the Penobscot River at the Eddington Salmon Club October 10-12. This year's gathering will officially begin with a salmon bake on Friday evening and a film, combine a day of demonstrations on the craft of rod building on Saturday, and end with a day of fishing for Maine's storied brook trout and landlocked salmon on Sunday at the East Outlet, the headwaters of the Kennebec River. Don Wilson will be the featured speaker on Saturday with a talk on the variety of woods used in antique rods. We'll have additional demonstrations on best practices in building rods and a couple of new films to show. One on the Hardy Tackle Company and one on custom built acoustic guitars. (Guitar makers have much in common with cane rodmakers.)
All events are open to veteran rodmakers as well as those just entering the craft. Space is limited to forty participants and preregistration is really helpful. The Registration fee of $38.00 for Saturday includes coffee and pastries, a full day of programming, lunch, and a Saturday evening barbeque. Friday evening's events will include a film, a variety of classic rods to witness and some to cast, and a salmon bake. The cost is $12.00. There is ample space in the clubhouse for workshops and displays.
The Eddington Salmon Club is located 4 miles north of Bangor, Maine on the east bank of the Penobscot. The grounds include ample
space for lawn and river casting. For information contact: Kevin Little at (207) 272-0286 or e-mail at rodmaker@roadrunner.com or contact Bob Milardo at
