I casted a Para 15 at the Catskill gathering a few weeks ago and loved it.
I have my very first blank all roughed out. I set up my new form all I need is the tapper to get started.
Please help I'm desperate

I have the numbers on 6" stations that I got from George Maurer 10 or 12 years ago. My shop is NOT at the house, and the numbers are there. If you want
them, call me between 9am and 4pm Central Time at the shop at 479-414-6470 and I'll be happy to give them to you. I'll be out of the shop for lunch
from 12 to about 1 but if I don't answer, it will be because I'm running a lathe or the beveller (going to try to get 3 sets of tip strips tapered
tomorrow), so leave a voice message and as soon as I turn off a machine, I'll call back. I would say "I'll write them down and bring them
home and post them", but I know I'd just forget for a couple of weeks, so just give me a call and I'll read them off to you.

There are also several examples on the net including hexrod and rodDNA. They're all little different, some of them for heavy and light tips. Most folks
like the light tips and variations on it better.
Maurer also has this taper in his book. |

Para 15 taper from George Maurer | #3 | ||
|
This is a Para 15 taper that George Maurer sent me probably sometime in the 80's. In the note he sent along with it (we didn't do email much then, we
actually wrote letters back and forth) he said it was the "original" taper on 6" increments from the PHY shop. Anyways... here it is...
Butt section 0" 0.236, 6" 0.250, 12" 0.260, 18" 0.270, 24" 0.280, 30" 0.295, 36" 0.300, 42" 0.300, 48" 0.300 Wet Tip 0" 0.078, 6" 0.096, 12" 0.121, 18" 0.133, 24" 0.157, 30" 0.183, 36" 0.196, 42" 0.215, 48" 0.234 Dry Tip 0" 0.070, 6" 0.090, 12" 0.115, 18" 0.130, 24" 0.154, 30" 0.170, 36" 0.193, 42" 0.215, 48" 0.234 Enjoy, Bob |

If it was the 2nd rod in the casting challenge then it was my Para-15. We thought we play with the caster's by putting Mike's progressive taper first then see if people can switch quickly to the parabolic action - more of a challenge. The Maurer tapers are the original Para-15 tapers - however, most people find that Wayne Cattanach's blended version of this taper usually yields a better rod. Chris |

Christian,
I plug the 6" station numbers into hexrod and let it convert them to 5" stations for setting up planing forms. Tim |

Yes there is a number around be carefull some work better with a 6 and some a 5wt.
Moregrayling if you graph the rod at 6 inches and take the readings from the graph at 5 inches. very easy really. Gary www.nichobamboorods.com |
