I am starting construction on a rod to be used for fishing nymphs(some might be weighted), wets, and smaller streamers(nothing bigger than say a #8) and was
wondering what characteristics others think would make a good rod for this type of fishing. It will be used in small to medium sized rivers and streams, not
really big water requiring long casts. I've been known to make whatever I'm fishing with toss things they typically aren't supposed to(like #4
conehead muddlers with a 1wt for example, that was interesting to say the least) so what I'm thinking for a rod might not be quite the best for what I want
to do. I was thinking around 8' or so for a 4wt with a slightly slower action and a bit heavier tip than your typical dry fly rod. I'm not really
looking for taper suggestions(although that would work to compare or describe actions), I'm more looking to see what actions and such others prefer for
this type of fishing. Any ideas?
