trying to decide between the two. Always loved the Grangers, but have only cast one Leonard. Liked it, but it was not this taper. Thoughts for or against
either one appreciated.

I think you may mean the Granger 7633 taper-- 7 '6", 3 3/4 oz., 3/2

I've owned a couple Leonards a 38H & 39H 2/2 configuration and have always felt they were Leonards finest tapers with a med-fast action. I've owned
several W&M Granger 7633 and this taper is also outstanding 4 wt. rod but not quite as fast a 39H with 5 wt. line although rated for 6wt line.

I've never cast a 7633, but I have made 2 39dh's from The Lovely Reed. Both were really nice rods, true DT4s by my evaluation, smooth casters. One
had Super Z, and the other had a 13/12 step-down. The latter was a smidgen better, smoother, just the lightest bit more authoritative. Big swelled butt holds
mass down by the hand and gives the feeling that the rod sort of casts itself. A really nice taper.
