From what I've read here this sounds like a seven weight. Any general observations about line weight, action, taper, etc.? Is this basically a smallmouth
rod?

KCRob, you may want to try a 8 wt. Suggest you use the rod for Largemouth bugging.

I have a couple 8 1/2ft and a couple 9 ft in the 2 1/2F. They vary somewhat and I have used 6WF and 7WF lines on most and one #125 works quite well with 6WF
line. While they are a little heavy, I do enjoy fishing with them, especially when it is very windy. But then, before I knew better, I fished for many years
with an old 9ft Montague and thought it was a nice fly rod. Actually caught far more fish with that rod than any others I own.
They make a good bass rod, but you can fish trout with them and they will not put you in jail. A little heavy for 8 inch brook trout, but for big rainbows or browns they are a better match. Nice for heavy weighted flies. Chuck |
