SuperBoo VI |
Lead | ||
|
Hi, Just to let anyone who is filling in his or her 2009 calendar know: SuperBoo VI will be held on the Saturday after the SuperBowl, February 7th. The event
is still free, and open to any and all who are interested in cane (or just so bored that you can happily tolerate those who are!). More information will be
forthcoming as thoughts unfurl ... (okay, I couldn't resist the furling part - Kat)

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to any who haven't been. Great opportunity to cast many, many cane rods, meet many great cane personages & amble mindfully through
groups of great fishermen who are all speaking that arcane language known to few, but described in academic studies as Maine Cane.
A unique experience with no downsides. Do it! Pat Garner |

I risked life and limb to make the perilous journey North through blizzards and Ice, howling winds and highways more reminiscent of pinball machines than
roadways. I am truly mystified by the sheer number of the physics challenged. Those 4X4 owners who feel safe driving at high speed on sheets of ice, the look
on their face when they finally realize that even though their 4X4 gives them a little extra traction to get moving it has no effect on their ability to either
stop or steer must be priceless. Of course that incredulous look is immediately followed by a loud crunch and a big repair bill, if they're lucky, an
ambulance ride if they are not.
But despite the incredible threat to life and limb, and the necesary mingling with motorized morons I succesfully navigated to the far white north and spent an absolutely fantastic day among other people, all too stupid to avoid such harsh and dangerous conditions, waving sticks in a Junior High School GYM. I was right at home. I plan to attend again, no matter what mother nature throws at us. |

I take it upon myself to note that Banjo has been known to bring an assortment of rods, reels & ephemera. Kathy and David are in the middle of it. And all
sorts of other cane-nuts are walking, talking & casting rods around w/ abandon. 6-strip, pentas & quads are stood up in racks w/ appropriate lines to
be cast. And the usual fishing lies are flying left & right. Brave the weather, consider yourself crazy & mark your calendars!

Wow! Thanks for all the good words and support!
I agree - Kath (and Mike) would be most welcome, but the good wishes travel a long way, too :-) We're in the process of designing this year's t-shirt. The "Varsity Fly Fishing" club kids meet Wednesday, but we have a few ideas already.... this being #6, the hex... hmmmm. All are welcome. This is grassroots, so no way of knowing for sure which rods will be there besides David's, mine, and maybe yours, but we've had up to 100 in the past, as well as all sorts of interesting talks, videos, story and information swapping, good stuff. The day started as a mini-conclave of the FFIM web board (www.flyfishinginmaine.com) and our one and very low-key fundraiser (the t-shirts, a raffle or two, the food) / service project of our high school club. It will be dry, sunny, and 70 degrees. More info to follow, Kat (et al) (I'd be honored to sign your book) |

I'll be there, too. I might actually help this time, instead of goofing off casting rods all day.
My turn to drive, Pete, so there will be no Grateful Dead music to be heard. Only good music.

Just an update- the gym will probably be open by 8:30 am and the rods that will be there will include enough to give you shivers- I expect to find at least two
that I MUST have... Dress warm, bring what you have/wish and introduce yourself. Hope many come- Hutch (Kat's assisitant)

Rhode trip from Rhode Island.... | #17 | ||

I'll be coming up to finally meet some of the many board members that I've been reading about with all the great posts and info. from the forum. Will
probably bring a small group of bamboo nuts from the small state on this road trip. Any ideas of cheap motel/hotel near by, we will probably be coming up
Friday night and also need a place to go for a burger and a beer before lights out, any ideas welcomed. Please save (3) XXL T-shirts for us.....

I'll bring a couple of dozen w cream cheese, almost taking for granted that there'll be some of Matt's coffee.
Also a Mills & Son 8' 4-weight and the Payne 100 taper that's going to the KVCTU banquet. Henry.
A line in the water is hope extended. Catching a fish is hope affirmed.

Bill there are plenty of places in the area. Waterville, ME
I forget the place we stayed last year, was very nice, one exit south of SuperBoo Exit. Maybe Banjo will remeber it. Plenty of places to eat as well. Pete
