New Hardy Perfect Agate Line Guide |
Lead | ||
|
So if one bought a new Hardy Perfect, which I understand has a gray agate line guide, can one have a red, white, green or other agate color guide installed?
Where? Whom? $50?

if you was to pay $900 for a new hardy and want the agate changed to red , i would first tell you that you can save half your money and buy a older hardy with
the grey agate and then get it changed to red , and i'd say you'd have a better reel for the value .
contact highfields in b.c , or better contact the real true hardy guy '' randy law '' in b.c and if it can be done he will know who could do it , randy is a forum member , do a search and p.m him ,most times he's home sleeping , someone said i think Bill A reelworks don't do them anymore , i can find out for you as i'm awaiting a phone call from him on a reel he's doing some work on for me on , i'll ask him when i talk to him as for colours , i did see a black agate one time , it was butt ugly on a reel i thought , i'd go with red , just my 2 cents , you might be into black agates ,

Hmmmm,, was that a shot? I paid $160 for the very same reel in 1993,,, how in the #@*% can this increase to $900 today and has anyone ever put it to Hardy to explain this ridiculous price?? My next question is,,,,, are the '08 versions a better reel than those produced in the 70's and 80's,, or are they the same animal,, country of origin aside? Hardy Guy

IMO the reel isn't even good looking compared to other Hardy reels. Yet alone worth 900 dollars!

oh i think that new hardy reel is a very good looking , just a little to high priced for me , i'd like to own one and if i could find one in the $600 range i'd buy it , i'm a dingley guy but do have a few nice hardys , i like to have them hardys to look at and compare as it makes me like my older dingleys better
the real true hardy guy ???
Hmmmm,, was that a shot? no ,no , shots are what i like to sip on when i'm tying flies , it's just my way of keeping track of all you hardy guys or wanna be hardy guys , seems like just so many of you'vs that i can't keep you all straight , some or you's should maybe change your handle's to mr bougle or mr perfect , heck even mr princess would be nice sounding , would help us slow
guys to keep it all straight
what i just did to help me keep it all simple is in my address book i changed it over to #1 hardy guy ''B.C , and then #2 hardy guy ''U.K and #3 hardy guy 'PEI and i think i now have a new #4 hardy guy from N.C , and you know , your all a great bunch of guys in my books
if i'm lucky and i get a few more hardys reels for my collection , i'm thinking , changing my handle from bow river over to # 5 hardy guy , just so i can be in your special group

I think they're sweet reels. Expensive? You bet, but so is everything in fly fishing.

How about $740 worth?

why they coming down in price , or is it the dollar is just weaker , that's a little better for a price on that reel as long as it's still made in the u.k

that is not retail - Harris Sportsmail just undersells everybody else.
The dollar is very strong against the pound right now. The pound is under $1.50.

The dollar is very strong against the pound right now. The pound is under $1.50.That, and the lower cost of Korean labor. The Korean currency too is under assault by the dollar, so the reels cost Hardy very little to have made, and then the dollar--at least for a short time--has strengthened tremendously. Who'd have ever thought we'd see these prices? Welcome to 2009. The wild ride is far from over!

Jay, I understand that some are, some aren't. Could you be specific about this?

There were only rumors about being made else where than England.
All new Perfects are made in England. Check out this clip: http://link.brightcove.co...811167333/bctid1840665881 Jay |

Hmm, convincing. Thanks. Some Hardys in the UK, some not.
Reminds me Leica cameras. Some are made in Germany, some in Portugal, some in... |

I just had 2 cracked agates replaced; one on a pre-war Perfect and the other on a pre-war St. George. I purchased the agates from Brian Tutty (briantutty@shaw.ca), and had the replacements done at Highfields http://www.hardyandgreyscanada.com/. Brian seems to have a good selection of colors and sizes.
