sorry, but that's one batch of gross pics. enjoy your meal. I have no problem with people eating what the law allows, but good grief, I have a problem with
bleeding dead fish/proud angler photos.

...so I probably should not post a picture of my limit of dead 2lb.crappies lying on the ice. I am not offended by a couple pictures of dead steelhead anymore
than when I read Traver's stories about him keeping his limit of wild brook trout or seeing pictures of his wild fish frying in a pan. Needless to say, I
do not see it as an offense worth griping about and only adds to the impression that fly fisherman are a bunch of snobs. I bet we'll have fun with this one
boys:)

this one will probably be killed by the moderators before it sees much of the light of day - but - I don't mind reading anybody's STORIES about wild
fish in a pan, but if you can honestly tell me you see some merit of any sort (a lawyer would say this is a dumb line of questioning because you will have an
answer) in a picture of a guy hoisting two bloodied fish to the sky for the world to rejoice in,, then by god i'm in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Gooseberry, I think you've got it wrong, but that's just me. It's all not about hoisting big dead fish to the sky for everyone to see what a slayer
of trout you are, and we'll all not rejoice in your "success". A well written story, pic of legal trout in the pan, all fine, well and good.
It's that damn hoisting of the bloodied and I guess defeated combatants that I find so offensive. It would appear that I'm the only member of this
board that finds the pictures offensive, so rock on. I would suggest all that like these also go to www.salmoncrazy.com where you can REALLY see lots of big
dead fish. Especially at this time of year, its really cool to hoist steelhead out of the water so at least their eyeballs freeze. Snobs my ass. I have a
friend or two that have left this forum because of censorship issues as they saw it; I want to know if this forum will continue to allow nice big bleeding
dead fish pics to be posted. Trust me, I'm no prude, no elitist, no whatever, but if I want to be a member of a "classic" forum, then I want to
know what the guidelines are for dead fish pictures. You guys have guidelines for everything else, how about this one??? If you all don't hear from me
again, you can assume I stepped over somebody's line. Thank you, gt

Different strokes for different folks. I think if a guy wants to post pictures of his dead fish it's no big deal. He had a successful day and he
probably had a great time. In fact I am a little envious of him. By the looks of the pictures, he caught his fish on flies and according to his story, the fish
were caught on bamboo. At least he killed the fish and put them to good use. There are many who stress a fish by playing it too long on light tackle, then
they lay it on the ground (or on a sand bar) and snap a picture while the fish suffocates. To me that is grotesque. You don't hear anyone complaining about
that. I can and will express my opinions and I do not fault you or anyone else for doing the same.

Some of the biggest TU supporters I know, both in time spent working on streams and money contributed, all for the good of trout, take a fish or two to eat
from time to time. So, what's the big deal about a picture showing the fish?
Looks like a very good day to me. gofish |

I haven't kept a trout to eat in years but don't object to keeping fish to eat occasionally if the fishery can spare them. But I've come to admire
and revere their beauty and to me (and maybe Scott) it's more a matter of respect for the creature whose life you've taken not to glory in their death.
I started keeping and cleaning fish when I was 5 yrs. old and had my share of pictures taken with the day's catch. But since I started catch and release
fishing, or maybe it's just my advancing age, I've come to view the whole thing on a more spiritual level.

The coldest day in Tennessee is probably no colder than a chilly day in April in Erie PA......You actually eat steelhead trout? They eat them in Erie, but only
after they're smoked....
Also, big trout will eat smaller trout. I've fished the Pere Marquette and some of those folks don't mind taking a 26" brownie out figuring they've saved the lives of a few brownie smolts. |

As Ted Nugent once said to a woefully misguided and uninformed head of PETA in a televised debate about hunting(and can be implied to fishing as well)
"It's Legal,Ethical and ultimately for the good of the resource(meaning not detrimental to natures balance)! What don't you
understand about that?"
I think he hit the nail squarely on the head. |

I release big fish and occasionally eat small rainbows just because unless I can smoke a big fish I don't like the way they taste. Just me. Frying pan
rainbows back at camp is a real feast and they are meant to enjoy. Big lake trout wrapped in cabbage stuffed with dressing laced with a little lemon baked in a
hot oven.........mmmmmmm I'll sure cave in to that one.
I doubt I've hurt the population very much. The pictures? Big deal. I see nothing un-sportmanship like about the pictures or anything relative to them. |

We all draw lines somewhere. Myself, I don't usually keep any trout. I don't like the taste of them anyway. I'm leaving for a four day trout trip
this evening and I'll be eating burgers, chicken and steaks while I'm away. There is something to be said for a skillet of trout cooked streamside
during the right occasion, though.
I will however harvest redfish which we have out the wazoo now that gill netting has been banned in my neck of the marsh. Same goes for bluegill. Some of my friends don't like the way redfish taste and always release theirs. They keep speckled trout (saltwater) because they like a good meal of them. As someone said "Different strokes". Personally, I don't see anything wrong with keeping a couple of fish. I think tilapia is overated. What really ticks me off is seeing someone breaking game laws. I've seen folks do that, and then turn right around and teach their kids how to do the same thing. A few other things that bother me are the outdoor section of my local paper usually has a picture of some child kneeling next to a carcass holding up the bloody antlers of a large deer. Folks talking about bumps on Hardy Perfects, and the way bamboo rods should not be dressed because they look "garish". Oh well, the older I get the more I let that stuff roll off my back. Different strokes is a good way to look at it. If we all liked the same things we would all be driving the same model car, all houses would look just alike, and we would all want the same woman. Tolerance, is underated (IMHO) unless it applies to politics and religion

I'd rather see a pic like that any day than a trout that is thrown up on the bank and covered in dirt and rocks for 5 minutes while they struggle for a
"glory" shot, after which the fish is unthoughtfully thrown back in the water and released "alive" but soon after dies. The other thing I
see a lot that's no good is putting a fish on a stringer live to let it struggle and die a slow death. If you're gonna keep a fish, that's the
right way to do it - quickly and mercifully dispatch the fish and bleed it and keep the meat cold and eat it when you get home so it doesn't sit in the
freezer for 6 months. It shows respect to the fish and the resource. Let's give this guy a break and give him a pat on the back for braving the cold to
have a nice day on the water. Well done.

This is a bamboo web site...I must ask were those PLANTED Tn SteAlHeaD caught with a bamboo rod? If so, great, what rod did you use? If not this is heresy and
must be deleted at once! I can look at anyone's porn caught with graphite on the front of FF'ing Mag's and other web sites . [Though, even a nice
glass rod would pass with me.] Yes, send your pics to FLY FISHERMAN MAG, maybe you too can get on the front cover.
But, no grass no pass! |

I think it's a little weird that we are willing to crucify somebody for the manner in which they handle a trout in an effort to take a picture and
celebrate somebody else for eating them. Why not enjoy the day on the water and go home and have a nice steak? I agree with Boo.fiberglass - if I have to look
at dead fish - I'd like to think the picture has some connection to this Board and our proud angler was at least fishing a cane rod.

For the record, I never said anything about killing or not killing fish in my earlier posts. But, for the record, I still think those pics are in poor taste,
at best. Let's see, I do have my picturepolice badge around here somewhere....

Yes it is a bamboo site. I would like to see bamboo in the picture. I usually try to think about whether the picture I am posting fits in with the criteria of
the rest of the posts. That being said, I don't think I have ever seen that kind of picture on this site, but I don't believe the picture in question
even comes close to breaking any rules. If it did the moderators (who are diligent and do a great job) would delete the questionable post.
Many posts have the potential of offending someone for some reason or another. It kind of gets tough being politically correct all the time. I like you guys on this forum, but I ain't gonna start saying "Happy holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" for anyone. |

Simple solution: Photograph the fish BEFORE you slit and gut them. That should offend no one. Dead fish in a frying pan is another situation...that just makes
me hungry.
Bamboo is the Benchmark for flyrods. |

for the record, it took 6 seconds to get this photo and release this beautiful male.
the isolated gravel bar I caught him against was polka-dotted with redds
the rods are never obsolete - the marketing is.
