Appears you can buy the Model 2/3/4 for $399.00 with a 10% discount thru the 29th.
A good deal?
Is this reel manufactured in Alnwick?
Thanks.

Bob -
There have been a few on a certain auction site lately for less than that....and although I have no first hand knowledge about where these are made the box in the listing photos states something like "Designed in Alnwick"......wherever it's made, that can't be a bad deal? Mark B |

I have a 5/6/7 that says Made in England on the back by the tension adjuster, I think the first few were at least put together in England but the ones we are seeing now are a product of Korea. Russ |

they are $140 cheaper if you buy them from www.harrissportsmail.com
Set your settings (upper right corner) to United States and American Dollar, and they will show you VAT-free pricing and actual shipping cost.

A few are still manufactured in Alnwick (saw them at the factory this summer), but most come from Korea. I was told by a Hardy person there that the way to
tell the difference is "price." Certainly, it's true, but I found the comment a bit annoying.

Just ordered a 5/6/7 from Harris Sports. From the cost, I expect it to be of Korean orgin, but a very fair price. Cortland is selling what are billed as
English made versions for much more on their site last time I looked. I'll see what it says upon arrival.

The serial number tells country of origin for Hardy Reels these days - if it starts with an "A", it was made in England. If it starts with a
"J" it was made in Korea.

ZenCane,
Serial numbers other than those starting with a "j' are Korean made. Purchased one myself with a serial number beginning in "E" that was made in Korea. Jim |

Just received a 2/3/4 today and even though it is Korean made you could not tell the difference from a UK made reel. Excellent reel and a great deal!
Didn't the Bougle Mk IV and Mk III get cleared out at the end of their run? I seem to recall quite a few showing up for sale at quite a reduced price, even picked up a 3 3/4" Mk IV for $300. They were on the market for only a couple of months and then I guess they were all gone. They are priced a lot higher now, they seem to go from the MSRP and up. |

bobbeegee wrote:you're welcome bro. These prices make them a no-brainer selection over a cheap Chinese conventional fly reel. Personally, this is exactly the result I was hoping, but not expecting to see from Hardy outsourcing. |

It is nice to see the prices coming down....I like many would have preferred the production stay put, but.......
Has anyone had one of the Mk II Cascapedia's opened up? Is it a disc type drag or? Mark B |

the small one is a clicker, the bigger sizes have the disc. I ordered one, I mean what the heck? At those prices why not.

Both the smaller sizes are gear and pawl. I handled a couple 5-7's a few years back. Seem to recall the check system being the same that was last used in
the JLH. Could be wrong as it has been a while!!!

I don't think that is the case at all. I don't believe this is a close-out like that when a few of us a few years ago bought Bougle Mk IVs for $230.
I believe this is the going price on the current production, and the supply of reels is not (severely) limited. That price has been up there for 6 months or so - we just now started talking about it. I don't think we will buy them down to straws. Hardy USA is just now gearing up to sell these. |

Agreed. Ron's comments will prove to be accurate. The bigger question is what these dramatically lower new-reel prices will do to the value of the older
examples. I think we can all say, "But those are made in the UK & will hold their value." But I wonder.
Just months ago on this sleepy forum we were demonizing any Hardy reel made in Asia. Now it seems a lot of us have piled on to buy the identical reels. Seems price drives opinions. :-) |

I have and have had reels of various brands made in Korea and to a one they have been excellent in construction and performance. Hardy puts out crap they will
disappear in to the lore of fishing and someone else will step in.
Then, what would we do without the Hardy girl? |
