From the Washington Fly Fishing Forum (what about the Jefferson, Adams and Hamilton Fly Fishing Forums?)
This one is tied as a tube fly. But it doesn't have to be. http://www.washingtonflyf...002&page=3#post402496

here's my favorite, I started with variations on Ally's for a salty shrimp and ended up with this to imitate our nickel-sized crayfish in our limestone
creeks.
More than a dozen years ago, I caught a 10-lb. bass in Bull Creek using the fly, so I named it Bull Creek Crayfish
If the fly looks tired, it's because I caught a dozen bass and bluegill in a spooky urban creek and nature preserve the day before I photographed it olive thread, size 10 2x-long streamer hook the tail is mustard-colored sili legs tied in an X and cut to uneven lengths Bead chain eyes on the outside of the bend, at the bottom of the shank just above the bend amber V-lace in a large size around the eyes and halfway up the hook dubbing loop abdomen, a mix of olive and rust pheasant rump soft hackle when you're all done, pick out the dubbing with a bodkin.
the rods are never obsolete - the marketing is.

Lil Bugger by Jim Andrix | #4 | ||
|
I'm getting into smallmouth fishing this season and asked a very similar question on another Forum.
It was suggested the Lil Bugger is a great, small crayfish imitation for smallmouth. If you tie, it's a very simple patterm. I've spoken to a few others and they also recommend this fly. I have a few on order in brown and olive. http://www.southeastflyfi...um/showthread.php?t=28528 bobbyg Go Heels!!! |

Fish this one dead drift, drag it on the bottom, or strip it like a butter.

I first saw this being tied by the creator at a fly fishing show last year, great looking pattern, enough weight to get where the crayfish live & rides
hook point up.

I can't vouch for this pattern but I'm going to tie a few and try them this season. They look like they'll work. Fox's Mudbug Dick

I can't get the link in there correctly. You need the entire line. Cut and paste or type it in. It won't work with just the red part. Sorry.

I've seen some pretty spiffy looking crayfish patterns but I wonder if all the detail is really necessary. The most successful streamer pattern I use is
simply a grizzly olive woolly bugger that I have caught many, many fish with -- smallmouth, largemouth, rainbows, browns, etc. and I have to think it's
being mistaken for a crayfish or small sculpin. I tie it weighted or unweighted with lead wire, a gold beadhead (or none), 2-tone olive medium chenille,
grizzly olive hackle, grizzly olive marabou for the tail with a bit of rootbeer colored crystal
. I know that tying a pattern that looks good to our eyes
is fun and satisfying, but it's hard to say if the fish really thinks it's what we think it looks like.
