I was under the impression that the 1903 Bougle' reproduction reel was made in only one size. However, I am seeing these Bougle's listed as both 2 7/8" and 3". Could somebody please clarify this for me?
Thanks,
Al

I think it's because someone has made a mistake in the measurement. The reel is 2 1/2" in diameter but 3 " if you measure from pillar to pillar.
BTW, the diameter of the spool is 2 1/4"

Didn't they also make a "Baby Bougle" version in the style of the 1903 model that was called a 2 1/2 inch model?

Christian, so would the 3 " be measured from pillar to pillar. The one I have measures as I described above and I just assumed the diameter of the reel
was always stated in outside wall to wall measurement of the frame, not including pillars. I'm confused now re these Bougle reissues! So Mark, maybe mine
is one of the 2 1/2" reissues??, but it doesnt say Baby Bougle anywhere on the reel , box, or papers.
Thanks, Tom |

The reissue was 3" only, measured across the pillars. The Mk IV followed, starting at the 3" size. The Baby was part of a later iteration, MK V or
VI?

1903 Bouglé | #6 | ||
ttrotter wrote: tom, as I said, I have the original promo leaflet (ca. 1998, print on both sides). there is only one size, the 3". I don't think the term "baby bouglé" has ever been coined/used oficialy by hardy in connection with the 1903 replica. the replica was offered as, to quote from the leaflet "the bouglé reel * 1903 pattern". best, christian

Thanks Bob....I guess I wasn't completely wrong, but wasn't right either........the scan doesn't show well on my screen, but looks like the Baby
was 2.75 inches?
Also, did this have the same style check as the Mk IVs? Mark B |

The BB has the same style check as the Flyweight and the new 2 5/8" Perfect. Bob |

Although I would have to look if the box is labeled with "Baby" anywhere, there was essentially another BB in green, RH with agate.
Also with the same check (no thumbscrew adjustment) as the Flyweight. > that doesn't look like the 1903 to me. but I've had eye problems lately. Christian, the BB is NOT the 1903 Repro which came with a leather case. It was added to the MKIV line of reels at the end of their run. Therefore the "NEW" in the catalog. It (BB) was sold at a steal of a price. I told everyone I thought would be interested to buy a few and put them away. Most didn't listen. They left their funds in the stock market I guess. YIKES. 1903 Bouglé | #19 | ||
flysupplies wrote: bob, I know. I was, in fact, refering to mark's post regarding the baby bouglé beeing another version of the 1903 replica. I think we've worked it out by now and can agree on the following: there is but one 1903 replica, it only came in the 3" size (measured across the pillars), oficialy named "the bouglé reel, 1903 pattern", no other size has been issued by hardy in this series. right?! best, christian
