Armchair - Just for the record: "I just showed her my hand with the finger that pointed the wrong way in a nasty fashion." translates into
I showed her a finger that had a 90 degree angle in an un-natural direction.

I love dogs along with all of God's creations but I value all human life above all. I'm with Andre.

I love my dog. Don't get me wrong. My wife and son are what I live for, not my dog.

I spent 30+ years in volunteer emergency services. The first thing you teach the new guys is " do not become part of the emergency". If things are
bad there is no reason to make them worse. I also developed a good feel for what can be done and what can't. On the other hand, if this is MY dog --

Great pic, I value my dogs life pretty highly as well as others, in the scope of things as far as personality I enjoy his presence more than most. But it is a
good question to think about, self sacrifice for another life, I can understand the hesitation for puppy mill dogs, but about a one of a kind breed. This is my
boy, I would be hard pressed not to react if something happened.

When my dog was just a puppy, he got swept away in a deep, fast current of a river that was flooded. Got his collar caught on some deadfall and was held under
the water. I went in after him. Rescued the dog, neither of us drowned (but I was a bit scared.)

are we talking about a risk, and not likely death? then absolutely I would save the dog.

Don't ever for a minute think he or she does not know what you did ...and will never forget the act for it's remaining days....someday it will be his turn to be there for you and without fail he will be there. May you both live a long and productive life together. Monty Montana

Usually in a sudden, emergency situation you don't have time to think, you just react. I know what I'd do.

dag, for a minute there I thought the critter in that top photo was a skunk.
The one below it is a Tasmanian Devil, obviously.

Yes,yes and yes! I've already have done it once and would not hesitate to do it again. Instinct to protect a loved one and adrenaline immediately takes
over.
