Plus, occasionally people contribute their opinions on rods they really did find to be all that they're cracked up to be (or something like that.)
Whoa, someone doesn't like the Heddon 8' 1 3/4F...Boo, that one is too fast for your taste, I gather.
I thought I'd like my Phillipson 8' Pacemaker more than I do. Too medium action. I keep thinking I haven't found the best line match for it. But even at that, I'll probably prefer my 1 3/4F, with its medium fast action.
I once owned a very well-made Jeff Pope copy of the much-recommended Dickerson 8013- which version, I don't know. What a gorgeous rod. But it was too fast for me- a little too much for the trout streams I most often fished, always wanting to shoot the line instead of just laying it down easy. I sold it a while back, to someone who just raved about it after he got it. Wrote a letter to me saying it was just what he was looking for.
Meanwhile, Inspector Cloozoe is on record as being underwhelmed by Garrison tapers, which a lot of people revere as the ultimate in fly rod design- as indicated by the prices commanded by the original examples.

I love the description of a
handle attached to a rope. It's easy to say that the caster must adjust to the rod; it's yet another to finally say "the h**l with it! There are
rods out there to match all of us. That one just didn't want to get along with me.
