Spliced Gluing Belts

Posts: 94 03/05/2009 20:05	Tags : None Howdy All, I'm interested in finding out how those of you who use spliced gluing belts on Garrison style binding machines actually do the splicing of the belts. I have had success with knotted belts in the past, but hold my breath each time the knot comes around. I have a Bellinger binder, but don't seem to have the sense to figure the darn thing out. So, if anyone would be willing to offer their secert of splicing belts it would be greatly apprecited. Thanks for taking a look. I truly appreciate any responses. Take care. Posts: 21 03/05/2009 20:44	Steve, The Bellinger binder is designed to be a continuous binder which means no belt. It is a terrific product. As for splicing I used to make the belt and then secure the union with a needle and thread and I had no failures, only a slight bump when the union went around the rod. I used braided Dacron that was essentially hollow in nature.

Posts: 257 03/05/2009 22:03	With braided dacron you pull the ends inside the other. One of the "Best of the Planing Form" has a picture that is self explanitory. The same splice is used to splice dacron trolling line. Posts: 3 03/06/2009 12:01	Get some braided cord and unwrap each end use pair of sciscors as you would if you curling papercurling paper, and then roll to pieces together and use copydex glue, this is a latex glue, very cheap, allow to dry and you have spilced belt that bends very easily and smooth when binding (copydex name here in uk maybe different in usa) andrew www.andrewvictor.com
