Does anyone have experience using Sutherland Welles marine spar varnish on their bamboo rods?

I have a couple of rods that I would like to refinish, and the S-W spar is the first finish that came to mind. I have used another S-W product, the "Murdoch's" tabletop varnish, on several furniture projects I have built, and it is without doubt the finest and most durable finish I have ever used on wood. It is expensive, but relative to the investment of time and effort in the woodworking, the cost of the varnish is modest. I have used the tabletop varnish on a maple kitchen table, a small cherry table, and a couple of cherry cabinets, and the results were *very* gratifying. In my experience, there is nothing at the big box borgs that is even in the same class.
I would be grateful to hear from anyone who may have experience using the S-W spar on their rods.
