There's a little bit about Foster's in Campbell's book on collectible fly fishing tackle. They've been around for quite a while- since the late
19th century, iirc.
"I can't not believe in a creator. The birds sing too beautifully and the trout are too speckled." John Martyn 1948-2009

When I was working and living in the United Kingdom 20 years ago on one of my journeys I stumbled across Fosters and managed to spend a lot of pounds at the
shop. It was similar to the original House of Hardy Store in London only smaller. They had a great collection of rods, flies, reels, etc. I bought a couple
of Hardy Fibrelite blanks and kits at the shop. I purchased salmon flies for a pound a piece.

Not a history as such, but try this book by David Foster, the founder http://www.archive.org/details/scientificangle00harrgoog, and his 1887 catalogue http://www.archive.org/details/retailcatalogueo00fostrich.

They celebrated their 200 years anniversary in 1963, despite that David Foster first founded the business (in the name of Foster) in 1833, in 1880 his 2 sons David (Jun.) and William took over and became The Foster Bros. of Ashbourne, which we see on some very nice and high quality reels - like these 2 5/8" twins(made by Dingley).
Foster Bros. made some odd steel wire ribbed rods - competing with the steelcentret rods from other manufacturers. Read more about the company in Graham Turnes book "Fishing Tackle - a Collectors Guide, which I just read are about to be released in a second edition after 20 years. (This time in colour !)
