Most supple fly line |

What is the most supple fly line out there (not silk)? I'm looking to replace a few fly lines and have been using Cortland 444 peach because it remains
supple in cold water. Also, it has to be a DT. Any thoughts?

Cortland Sylk is, IMHO, more supple than Peach. I also like the Rio Selective Trout II lines for cold water performance, and SA Mastery XPS.

I'll second the Rio and add Hook & Hackle to the list.

I like the SA Ultra series, especially the III (haven't yet tried the IV). Cortland Sylk is a close second.

The Rio Selective Trout is quite supple. But my newfound favorite is the Scientific Anglers Shark Skin

My top choices for most flexible/least memory would be Sylk (my favorite winter line), SA XPS ; then the H&H, which I think is a really good all-around
line-- I have three H&Hs in 4,5, and 6--, then the Cortland 444. All DTs, all weather all the time. All good.

Cortland "Clear Creek".
Hands-down the best fly line I have ever used. Supple, but not soft, with an extra-long front-end taper and very gradual rear taper to a fine level rear/"shooting" line (although it's not really a WF or LB). I tie my own leaders and if you use a .017 leader butt (as I do), the next step up is the tip-end of the line. Introduced around1995 and still the best leader-to-line transition and delicate fly presentation of any fly line I know of. It was introduced sort of under the radar when it was new (took a back seat to first-generation Lazer Line advertising of the same period). Currently about $55 or so and still available through Cortland, some fly shops, and some catalogs. Dark olive-green color. I rue the day I won't be able to find any; it's all I use. Chuck |

I find the Scientific Anglers Supreme 2 Ivory lines work really well on bamboo rods. They are supple and slick with very little memory and that ivory colour
looks right on a cane rod.
Tried out some new H&H
lines this past weekend and they too were very supple and floated nice and high, but I couldn't help feeling they felt light for their designated weights.
Very impressive lines all the same.

Cortland Sylk. For sure in the winter.
Brook Trout are God's way of reminding us everything is going to be alright. |

I've posted this before, but in my experience the "suppleness" of Cortland Sylk and H&H (made by Cortland) is the same -- very supple even in
cold weather.

The Ultra 3 changed to Ultra 4 and now this year it is labeled as the Supra.

Fanwing & Arctic Grayling...
Thanks for the marketing update. I haven't shopped for a new line since purchasing my Ultra IV late last year, so I wasn't aware of the name change and would have just assumed one more good thing had been discontinued. |

Thanks for all the responses guys. I do fish a few of the sylks, I just don't think they float very well compared to the 444 Peach, but they are
definately more supple.
