I have two 8 1/2 foot 3/2 Montague Rapidan rods. Both rods seem to have a light tip and a heavy tip. Is this normal?

for example: just above the first guide measures about .100 on one tip and .115 on the other. I've just assumed they were made so you could use 2 different
lines on the same rod, but I've never seen any info on it.

To my experience, many vintage manufacturers included a heavier tip and a lighter tip with a rod. Have seen that in Heddon, Wright & McGill, South Bend and
others... With Montys, since they had light and medium trout actions, perhaps it would be easy to include one of each. you would think that different tapers
are involved, but I have a light action 2 piece Fishkill with a 12/64ths ferrule - a light action tip that came with it fits and a later add on medium action
tip also fits that ferrule. far different tips. Now, one case proves little, but those different tips would seem usual for vintage cane.

The Rapidan is a great rod. It's a real cannon. I've enjoyed it with a 5WF even though I'm sure it's rated for heavier. Probably won't work
with an 8x tippet!
