You dont see them much now-adays, the old double slips of mallard. A quick look through any old dry fly picture book shows all Catskill drys tyed with them
though. Darbee and Dette listed all quill slips as "double divided", so I figured it was time to man it up and figure out how to do these without
ending up with a 4 winged fly.
The trick it seems, is to use a narrow slip rather than the fatter ones you see on wet flies. I was getting all frustrated until I realized making them thin is the way to keep them under control. That and having matched quills to work with.
Here are a few I did tonight, a Lady Beaverkill and a Pale Evening Dun.
Anybody have any tips or tricks to share on tying these? CJ
