Posts: 112 04/30/2009 11:39	Tags : None I am looking for information about Praline reinforced Heddon ferrules. Specifically, how are they attached, and can they be removed to re-set a ferrule. Can you get them off in one piece so they could be re-installed? How? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. I tried to get the ferrules off using the method Mike suggested but I don't believe it is possible. The plastic is feathered down to a very thin tab so that the silk can be wrapped up over the base and in general it is very brittle. The up side is that the heat seems to have reactivated the ferrule glue to the extent that the ferrule click is no longer there. So I think I will leave well enough alone. As you can see the rest of the rod is pretty rough. It is a 9' 3/2 with 2.5 ferrules. One tip is down about 4 ". I am not to much interested in using it as a regular rod to fish, I just want to see how far I can bring it back to original appearance. If thing turn out well I will see about having the short tip scarfed back to full length. Any other input would be appreciated and thanks to Mike for his input.. Posts: 620 04/30/2009 19:46	Fellas, Of all the Heddon rods I've restored, I've never removed the pyralin ferrules. As you know, it is a reinforcing band at the base of the female ferrule. IF it hasn't deteriorated over the years, you'll have to exercise great caution in using heat to remove the ferrules. To be safe - first examine the ferrule for pins. Some were pinned, some were not. If there is a pin, remove it first. After the pin is out, try this: place the ferrule end of the rod in a heavy duty zip-lock type bag - you're basically making a condom for the ferrule and a couple inches of rod. Secure it with tape or a rubber band. Then place the covered rod end into a pan of really hot water - taking care not to melt your condom with the side or bottom of the pan. You're going to have to hold it there long enough to get that glue soft. Might work, might not. But if it does, you are more likely to save the pyralin on the ferrule. If this method fails and you must use an alcohol lamp or other flame source to heat the ferrule, be really careful and go slowly. I would THINK that if you heat the distal end of the ferrule carefully, the glue should release before the temp gets high enough to affect the pyralin. Just to be safe, keep a little water nearby to cool the ferrule rapidly if you get it too hot. Good luck - let us know how this works out. If someone has a better plan for removing these ferrules, PLEASE speak up! The New Divine Rods
