I am guessing this was a house branded rod for Pequea Tackle Co. which was a manufacturer with a dealer network. It was located in the town of Strasburg in
Lancaster county, PA. It is correctly pronounced like "Peck-way" and was named after the native American Piqua tribe. This is a guess concocted after
a brief on line search. Best regards, Bill Lambot

Pequea was also a trade name used by the J.S. Johnson Co. of Baltimore, which is a known retailer of Heddon trade rods...

You can add Montague to your list of makers that built trade rods for Johnson under the Pequea Tribe label. I've seen a few Montague made trade rods
marked with a Pequea Tribe label. Oddly enough, I identified this one as a Montague Comanche model.
The winding check is standard Monty, found on several rods, including the Rapidan, Sunbeam, etc. The reel seat is the high-end Scrulock style found on the Red Wing and Manitou. In addition, Montague used Pequea brand snelled hooks in some of their boxed fishing kits. . . . Rex TheMontyMan |
