has anyone fished any of the eastern oregon lakes this spring? my brother wants to go fishing with me and i am thinking since he has little skill in casting
that a pontoon boat on a lake trolling would work best for him and allow for both of us to have a good time.I was thinking chickahominy or mann

I like to fish Mann Lake in the spring but fishing has been poor since goldfish were established two or three years ago by bait fishermen. Oregon Fish and Wildlife plan to rotenone it possibly this year or next. Sad. If you're attracted to high desert lakes in that general area, you may want to consider Knott Creek and/or Onion Valley Reservoir which are actually in Nevada and not too distant if you are thinking about going as far as Mann--the approach is from Denio Junction. Both open June 13. --Dwight

thanks Dwight, i didnt know about the mann lake issues . thats one of the reasons i came here .i was hoping for some inside info. i am leaving tommorrow. so
nevada will have to wait. was hoping someone would chime in on chick or warmsprings res. guess we will stop into a flyshop in bend to get the latest. Dennis

spent the weekend at chickahominy res. .The water was fairly low but the fish responded to Midge patterns and all purpose emergers. pulled 3 fish out in a little over 4hrs ,all were around 24" and 31/2 to 4lb. and very fiesty.One fish i broke off proceeded to jump over a half dozen times.one very annoyed fellow that one. My brother had 2 fish on with jumping only to loose both fish. All in all a good outing. |

Glad you had a good time at Chick Dennis. the wife and I are headed out this thursday to one of our favorite SE Oregon lakes, hopefully we will have some good fishing too. May swing by Mann just to check it out. We havent been out there for several years due to the invasion of goldfish. Bruce |
