which of our present rodmakers you would choose? This can be a reproduction rod or a non-reproduction based on Dickerson. Thanks for your thoughts.

I do not rule out the possibility of owning a Lyle Dickerson rod one day but, may I ask, if you own or were having a rod made today with a Dickerson taper,
which of our present rodmakers you would choose? This can be a reproduction rod or a non-reproduction based on Dickerson. Thanks for your thoughts. Best, Jim P |

If you want a Dickerson - John Pickard is your best choice http://www.pickardrod.com/ - he now owns the Dickerson Rod Shop and components. His knowledge of the Dickerson taper is outstanding. His cosmetics are almost identical down to his handwriting. Even before buying the Dickerson Shop he would have been my first and only suggestion. Chris |

Pickard makes nice rods for sure. I would go with Thramer. He has some of the original taper ledgers from Dickerson's shop and can clone a rod as well as
anyone. I don't particularly like the idea of an "exact" clone, it takes away from the makers personal touch IMHO and never will be the real
deal. But if you really like Dickerson tapers (i sure do) then getting a good maker to whip up his version of that taper while using his personal cosmetics
would be my first choice. I own a Thramer 6611 and 7012 HB tapers, both with Thramer cosmetics and they are both awesome rods. The 6611 has a swelled butt
unlike many versions I've seen and is an especially sweet rod. The 7012 HB is super light, and can cast with the best of them.

Daryll Whitehead would be another good choice. Since the time he was with the Deschutes Rod Co. in Seattle he has built rods with Dickerson tapers.

My vote goes to L.C. (Lew) Parks. I own one of his 7612s and it's a wonderful rod.

No Question about it, John Pickard. Very nice guy. A rod from John is the next best thing to the real thing. I love the 7612 Taper. Good luck.

No question my friend John Pickard is the way to go for a Dickerson reproduction. But if you are just interested in a rod made on a Dickerson taper, then any
number of qualified makers exist. As long as a maker includes the correct ferrule drop, Dickerson tapers are no more difficult to make than most others.

Another maker who knows Dickerson tapers very well is Rick Cunningham.

John Pickard only way to go. I have had my rod alongside an original and except for mine being new they were identical.

Jim P. you have some great choices there. Kind of sounds like a pro Pickard crowd here
To be very honest, when you cast a hollow built version of a Dickerson/ Payne/ FET they all feel a bit better than a solid version. Something about swing weight, lighter in hand etc. Then the Pickard crowd will tell you that John has the Dickerson equipment, he's in Michigan, it's all nostalgically gooey Guess it depends on what exactly you're after. I cannot emphasize to pick up the phone and call the rod makers. Have fun. |

John's the guy. I have one of his 7625's, and it's a great rod, being a 7613 replica. But more relevant and to the point, I bought a single tip
Dickerson 7613 from John and he recently provided me with a second tip from pre-embargo cane and original Dickerson hardware, and the action is a dead ringer
for the original Dickerson 7613. I just fished them both side by side on the Green River. Besides that, he's extremely knowledgeable about Dickerson, is
the present owner of the Dickerson rod shop, and has an extreme reverence for Lyle's creations and tapers. I highly recommend him. Besides, he's a
fun guy to chat with about almost anything to do with fly fishing and the outdoors.
