I was at the Orvis store in Manchester, VT yesterday and I thought I'd try one of their new bamboo rods. The salesman put a Penn's Creek model in my
hands and I was most favorably impressed with it. It was pretty breezy, but I was able to put the little fake fly consistantly within inches of where I wanted
it, from just the leader out all the way to about a 50' cast. I even had one of their big pond rainbows inhale the little fur ball.
Now I'm wondering, does anyone have a clue what taper that is available for building might closely match the Penn's Creek? It is a 7' for a 4 wt. that was described by the salesman as "full flex" but it definitely seems like a fast taper to me, or more like a progressive. The more line I got out the deeper it flexed. It had a swelled butt section which may have contributed to the fast feel. I'm not ordinarily a big fan of fast actions, but this one suited my casting style perfectly.
I there anyone who's tried one of these rods that has an idea of a close match?
