SergioGe wrote: I've fished his 8'3" prototype and also cast the 8' version of the rod. Both are nice, though I'm partial to the extra length of the 8'3". I'd classify it as more a 5/6wt (I like the 6 at pocket water ranges). Very nice in close but throws 60' nicely. The interesting part is how light the rod feels in my hand. Raine hollowbuilds pretty aggressively, and the goal isn't really to produce a light rod as it is to produce a rod that casts better. Still, I know the staggered ferrule started life as an experiment to see if moving the ferrule down the rod would change its feel in the hand. Seems it did. Take care, TC |

Thanks. I am thinking of to buy a 8 - 8.3 rod hollowbuilt for line 5, but it is so difficult to choose without the possibility of to see and to test the rod.
Lot of good rodmakers make this type of rod now (Raine, Carlin, Norling, Reams ecc.). And there is also the problem of the delivery time, as I need the rod as
soon as possible. Sergio

Sorry TC, do you think the action of Raine rods is fast? Because I much prefere medium action rods. Sergio

SergioGe wrote: His early rods were faster tapers, and probably not your cup of tea. He's moderated his newer tapers, and I like them better than the earlier rods. Like you, I prefer more "medium" actions (for comparison, I like the 'standard" 8' and 8.5' Phillipson tapers), but it's a difficult to say whether you'd like or dislike his current crop of tapers based on a word like "medium." As for delivery times, I believe he's worked most of the way through his waiting list (he had some health issues), so delivery has speeded up some. I also know he's got an 8' version of the staggered ferrule rod almost finished, though I don't know if he intended to sell it or not. Why not call or email him directly? Good luck! |
