Ad copy: The ZINGER trend! Why a flat body rod? Our flat body design always commands a direct straight forward plane essential for a correct thumb thrust, key to a succesful cast. The rods anatomy maintains a perfect harmony at all times with the reel, flexing easily in all directions. Why is our rod stronger? The construction of the rod borrows from the time honored art of the bow maker~ carved in hard maple and coated with archery glass for greater strength, longer casts, and strike awareness. As you can see the craftsmanship and the design of the high quality wood handles insure comfort and handling ease. Original specs are; Handle Mahogany Lengths; 6'1" and 6'4 1/2" one or two piece Lines; 4-7 Weight; 4.5 ounces hardware; Ceramic stripping guide, hard chromed tip top and sd\nake guides colors; Yellow, Blue, Red, Green, Tan and Black Price; $65.00 (tax,Pre-paid) allow 2 to 4 weeks for delivery I hope someone has one stashed away. Posts: 502 05/21/2009 09:33	Hi Jeff - Check the next couple issues of Fly Fisherman. They reviewed the rods, and panned them pretty bad. They said they were too directional, and worse that they had a design flaw at the ferrule and were prone to breakage. I don't remember if they had a photo along with the review, but that might be your only shot. I never saw the rods advertised again after the review. Unless someone saved one as a curiosity, you are probably out of luck. Too bad, it was an interesting concept.

Sounds like he should have used bamboo instead of the Maple;-) The ad I qouted has a picture and they are very unique in their appearence and look to almost be a take off of the 4 strip flat laminate used by Tycoon tackle/Fin Nor for their rods. It definitly caught my eye as I was perusing thru the pile of old magazines in the corner of the cave. Jeff

Posts: 36 05/21/2009 18:40	I also remember those adds and reviews in Fly Fisherman. The only one I have ever heard of or seen photos of was on the Evil Auction site a couple of years ago. The only problem with it was that it................had broken off at the ferrule! Imagine that.

Posts: 2180 05/24/2009 10:09 King of the Gnomes	cdmoore, I had the great honor of learning how to make strip built rods and my teacher was John Betts and this was before he first published his book on "Making Strip Built Wooden Rods". To stay on track; What I am after here is specific information about Ed Sisty and his Efforts in the fly fishing world. From his small publication how to manuals on fly tieing and or information on his Fly paks of flat bodied nymphs etcetra; Gary, here is the ad that sparked this search for Ed Sisty information. The idea was probably good - a laminated rod made like a laminated bow - but the execution was faulty. Trust Gnome to find a kinky rod maker to admire. Is there a Gnomish Zinger in our future? Posts: 437 05/24/2009 13:49 Sic transit piscatoria Clark's	I believe Roy B. Shaver, a California rodmaker whom I covered in my last book, built a few fly rods like this in the 1920s. This was before he patented his "duo-built" rods which also look like this but were laminated over a solid core. Remember Shaver originated "three-six" rods for saltwater fishing back in 1906, and his clients included Zane Grey, so he was a talented fly rod maker. -- Dr. Todd
