I don't make my own seat hardware and would like to find a seat with larger/wider thread pitch like seen on some bigger older rods. Is this avail. anywhere?

AJ Bamboo wrote:The only issue I have with the Struble is that part of the hardware is nickle silver, and the other part is aluminum. If you are going to blue the hardware, it's tough to get a good color match in the bluing. They do offer the same reel seat with the aluminum part black anodized, but that might make it even harder to blue the NS end cap to the same color. Mark

i talked glen struble into making that cap with a NS end piece as an option in the late 80's and they are still available. you might have to call struble
corp in portland OR.
if the entire RS was made of NS it would weigh a half pound. okay, i exaggerate but it would be ridiculously heavy. aluminum SL hardware was good enough for thomas, leonard, payne, orvis, dickerson, garrison, gillum, ........ |

AJ Bamboo wrote:AJ, It would be fine either way for me, if it was all NS or all aluminum. Most times, downlocking reel seats like that are mounted on 5 wt and up rods anyway, and that little extra weight tends to help balance out the rod a wee bit. My only real complaint on using dissimilar metals is it's quite difficult to match up the coloration when you blue the hardware. If they black anodize the aluminum, I'd have a pretty tough time matching the NS components to that color unless I black japan the metal, and that won't quite hold up as well as the anodized finish will, and will still probably not be a very close match in color, depending on the depth of color of the anodized part. I believe the NS end cap version of the D-1 is now the standard. Mark
