Two questions I am hoping to get some guidance on. First, I have 8 1/2ft, Heddon #10 which is in excellent condition except for the reel seat. It is a screw
down type. The problem is that the threads do not go down far enough or the screw down itself is not wide enough to securely hold the reel. You can push the
metal band snuggly over the reel foot and so far it has held, but ideally you would like to have the screw down snug on the band holding it in place. So here
is the question how hard is it to remove the reel seat and replace it with soemthing that works better? I would like to keep the rod original, but when
original meets up with real world and real world suffers maybe that isn't the best idea. Any ideas greatly welcome.
The second question concerns shortening rods. I have a nine foot old Montague that broke at the male ferrule on the tip section. Since it is going to have to be repaired anyway I would like to make it an 8 ft rod in the process. Can that be done with out buggering up the taper and castability and if so how is the best way to proceed? Would it make sense to cut the mid section at the male ferrule and reglue? If so then what do you about the butt section? If you cut the male end on the first two sections and then cut the butt section on the female end wouldn't that screw things up? Is it even something that can be done? I didn't pay much for the rod, less than $50, so if it is messed up it won't be a great loss. I did however cast pretty well before it broke.
Thanks.
