Heddon #31 7' 2/2 |

I recently picked up a Heddon #31 made for Abbey & Imbrie. The wraps have aged with time and a couple need replacement. They appear to be pongee with
yellow/gold tipping where the pongee almost looks brown due to the age. Is any one able to confirm the wrapping colors and do any of you own a #31.
thanks, Ed

I'll try to get pictures of it posted this weekend. The rod is marked Abbey & Imbrie in cursive spiraled around the rod. Black butt cap, black winding
check, cedar barrel, black grip check, early Heddon Chrome plated high grade nickel silver ferrules with the two double sets of serrations on the
ferrules(exactly the same as the #120 ferrules posted on the Appraisel & Identification post) and minute knurled winding band (exactly the same as the #120
ferrules posted on the Appraisal & Identification post). The 7' rod has 9 guides on it, 2 on the butt and 7 on the tip section.

Heddon Model 31 | #3 | ||

Hi Ed,
Yes I own a Model 31 Heddon Featherlite. Mine is also an Abbey & Imbrie trade rod. Mine matches the description of yours, except for the wraps. The standard wraps, I believe were Antique Gold, tipped black. Your gold wraps have probably aged to the point that they appear as you describe. Mine are the opposite, black tipped gold. My rod has been refinished. Here are some pics. By the way, it's a wonderful 7 footer for a 4 weight. Having no swelled butt it's faster than the Featherweights, in my opinon.

Bob & Mike,
Thanks for the pictures and information. Shown below are the pictures of my rod in the as purchased condition. The last 2 pictures are from one of the damaged wraps. The first pic is of the wrap as it appears on the rod, the second pic is of the wrap turned "inside out", so that you can see the change in color variation. I will need to have the second tip scarfed, before I restore the rod. If you have any recomendations, please let me know. Thanks, Ed ![]()

Heddon trade rods | #8 | ||

Can anyone tell me if the trade rods in this configuration all share the same taper? I'd like to build a clone of the 31 but have the taper for the Heddon
Folsum, 7042.....so I am trying to make sure of what I am working with here.
Thanks, Tim "B'iĀonn gach tosach lag." Every beginning is weak. |
