What's an equivalent in silk available today? Thanks in advance.

Are they really yellow or just faded "Granger Green"?

From what I've read, they were yellow, black trims, like a Peerless, but I am open to correction!

Phillipson described the wraps as "Burnished Gold". I've used Gudebrod #340 nylon with good results. Original thread WAS nylon, DEFINITELY NOT
GRANGER GREEN. If you want to use silk, use YLI #78, but remember the original was NYLON.

Michael,
Not to be difficult, but are you sure? Sinclair's book, told to me by someone who has it, says: Wrap Specs - Silk Thread, Gold #7, Black #1 Just want to be sure before I go in for the job! R |

I'd comment to that, but far as I know you're Hoagy Carmichael.

RStouff wrote:You are correct! That's what the book said - but I have since discovered that there was a typo of sorts there - the Preferred had nylon wraps, the Peerless (early version) had silk wraps. "Burnished Gold Nylon" is the way the wraps are described in a Phillipson catalog page from 1952. Like Bill Cosby once said, "You'll learn something new every day if you're not careful!" |

Hehe,
Just getting in on this thread. Michael, meet my friend Roger. Roger, meet my friend Michael. The two of you would get along great in real life. If I can get Roger up to SRG with me this year, you two will likely talk late into the nights, or early mornings. Harry |

Ah, I feel better now. Thanks for the info, and for being such a sport with a novice.
Harry, I'm not sure which one it is, but Offner's trying to get me to go to something Sept. 30-Oct. 4 in Mountain Home, is that the one? I'm leaning toward going, too. R |

Roger,
That's the FFF Southern Council Conclave. It's a great show and you'd have a great time. I was thinking of the Southern Rodmakers Gathering which is held in the same vicinity October 22-24. Either would be great, but the SRG is exclusively bamboo related. HB |

Back to the subject of wraps. The current Gudebrod nylon is a larger diameter than the original nylon used by Phillipson. A good substitute is Belding
Corticelli Antique Gold silk in size A. I think the color number is 3715 but not absolutely certain of that.
