I have a couple of fly rods, one of which I have no idea of age or value. The other is a bit more straight forward.
1. The easy one -- This is a 8 1/2' Shakespeare Marvel 1357. While I realize this is not of any real value, it is in unused condition. I doubt if it has
even had a reel attached. It is mint and the person who gave it to me said he bought it new and never used it. The muslin sack is in fair condition as is the
label on the bag, which from what I could find out states Columbia, SC suggesting 1947-1949 for manufacture. Reading the forum, looks as if someone else may
have manufactured it for Shakespeare.
2. The second rod appears to be "greenwood" and certainly not bamboo. My Dad got this from an elderly professor in the early 1950's and the
story is it was made in Germany in the 1860's. It is 10', 3 piece with 2 tips, though one is broke (guess my intro to casting had its challenges),
hanging guides, a rattan handle and sliding ring reel seat. It is in very good condition, except for the broken tip (top 1-2"). It looks to have the
original bag and leather case, though the leather is in fair condiiton at best. There are no names, numbers or other id on the rod. Several photos are
attached.
Many thanks for any information or guidance.
