Here are some pictures of a nice early (circa 1910 imho) contracted Perfect that has found its way into my collection(s).

You're referring, of course, to that extraordinarily rare stamp on the reel face that reads, "copyright Ken M 44"?
Now, what do you mean, "no prizes"?! |

Ken,
A beauty, what diameter? Has anyone else noted the 1906 Contracted (LH) at Mullocks? (Link) Brian |

Page 142 of Hardy Brothers the masters the men and their reels states: It was during 1895 the one of Hardy's clients, Captain Horace Mann, requested the
firm to make a Perfect fly reel that would suit him for dry fly fishing. Naturally, the firm was keen to oblige and duly produced a reel suitable to his
requirements. Recognising that other anglers might well be interested in a narrow drum version of their Perfect, Hardy's exhibited an example of Captain
Mann's reel at the Fisheries Exhibition held at the Royal Aquarium in 1896.
Paraphrasing the rest, the reel took the press and anglers by storm and Hardy was quick to produce the Perfect in this Special Contracted form...........

Nice reel - I will have to get mine cleaned and polished up again
funny how most of these reels have had the winding plates polished but it works for me.
