Just aquired another Winchester/Edwards supervised rod, a Winchester 6040. The wraps are a purple color and the rod hardware/ bamboo is identical to several
Winchester/South Bends I now own. In Pat Garner's book a plate on page 95 refers to the 6040 as a sub model of the "Hop Brook". I also own a
Hop Brook and it looks to be HI built.
I feel as if I'm walking out onto thin ice every time I go into this direction and someones going to throw a brick out to make me fall in! This rod and my SB models are very high quality workmanship. This 6040 like I say is a mirror of all four SB 12's I own. I know Winchesters plant might have been pretty large but I can't see them spreading the bamboo production area out over too large an area that EW couldn't have been more involved than to just say "yea huh that's a nice rod your working on today Joe, where did you get that idea?". In my mind if it's a Winchester there must be a strong link to EW. Even Pat's book shows two pictures of Edwards rods atributed directly to him, the plate 72 ( my rods reel seat except for mine has a knob on the end) and plate 73 that shows my rods winding checks. The two rods are the Folsom 1520 and the Winchester 6045.
I don't want you to think that I'm harping on this because I want my rods to be thought of in a more valuable light, I just want to establish more/ a link to Edwards history if possible.
I just got the rod today, the butt and mid sections are both completley delaminated. I will be gluing them up later this week, starting on the wraps next week and pictures by the 20th. I am taking this one and an 7 1/2' SB model 25 with me to the North Cascades on the 13th of September and catch some cuts in Remmel/Black lake just to be alone with them, my wife and my weak mental link to Eustis!
This is my South Bend model 25's reel seat
If anyone has pictures of the rod in better shape I would like to see some pictures. These two are of what I have for work today!

And here is all five, 4 South Bends and the Winchester 6040 in the middle.

I have to set up with another macro barrel to get a better shot of this section. There is a "2ND" stamped here, I'm not sure if it really
means the rod is a second, mabe 2nd shift or they numbered the production run of models. Has anyone seen this before? Like I say, I will add better
pictures either tomorrow or Sunday.
* Here are the better shots, it looks as if the 2 was double stamped but the ND is clear. Any ideas?
