Stone and Parks Rods... |

I see quite a lot of Dennis Stone and Lew Parks rods for sale on Ebay. Both seem to do excellent work from the photos. I believe both seem to prefer Dickerson
tapers from what I've read in some of the rod descriptions. What are their individual backgrounds in rod making? How long/many have they been building? Who
was their mentors? Has anyone on this forum been able to compare their rods head to head? The prices make either one very tempting but I've never seen rods
from either maker in person.

I'm sure others will comment, but if you do a search on both you will find favorable comments on these two makers. They seem to offer good quality at a reasonable price from what I read. I don't have rods from either of them, but I did a search myself and found the comments of which I speak. Dennis Stone has a website that may answer some of your questions about his background. www.stonerodco.com |

Dennis Stone posts here as Tapermaker
I have handled a couple of his rods and built off of his blanks. High quality work both in the blansk and finish work.

I bought two rods from Lew Parks. Both rods had perfectly/identical mirrored tips, and the finish is superb. I'm actually debating
whether or not to take my 7' 4wt Parks fishing this afternoon consider. |

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- Lew Parks's rods are terrific and great bargains as well. He is also a gentleman to deal with. I recently, and reluctantly, sold a Parks 4-weight hollowbuilt; fortunately, I have another, a Payne 79 taper. I don't have any of Dennis Stone's rods but I have handled a couple and they are very nice; I have heard that he also does very nice restoration work. |
