Posts: 170 07/11/2009 01:40	Tags : None I'm trying to determine the date of publication of a Montague City Rod Company advertisement that I recently acquired. It does not specify any dates, but the advertisement states that Montague's reel factory is located at 251 Classon Ave., BROOKLYN, N.Y. Can anyone tell me when their reel factory was located at this address?? Or point me in a direction to do the research myself??? Was this factory due to an acquisition? If so, what company did they acquire, and when? I have a 1904 Montague advertisement that states Montague's reel factory is located at 163 Grand Ave., BROOKLYN, N.Y., and a 1927 advertisement does not mention a NY reel factory at all, but lists the rod making factories in Montague City, Amherst and Post Mills, Vt. (Chubb). I realize that 163 Grand and 251 Classon are within a couple blocks of each other, so the physical location probably did not change, just the official mailing address for the factory, or the main office was moved to another location on the property. Are there Postal records that can be accessed for address changes like this? Basically, if I can determine when this address was used, I can determine a date range for this advertisement. Posts: 1949 07/11/2009 08:02	IIRC, Montague bought the reel factory from US Net & Twine sometime around 1898. It was the same facility that produced some of the Kosmic reels.

Posts: 151 07/11/2009 13:30	Rex, saw your auction ad for Montague appraisal services. Good idea, I hope it takes off. Okay, I'm gonna bid on the Flipline... since your collection is larger, I thought you should own it as I don't really collect bait rods either, however, that does look like a great rod and one of us needs to own it. I'm trying to reduce the number of rods I own... that's why I was hoping you'd be interested in buying it... LOL The Zephyr line of light line rods are fun rods... I didn't notice many/any in your collection. I think I have one or two of them. They don't have NS ferrules, so they don't qualify for my collection, but they are some of the best casting low cost Monty's. One of my first Monty's was a Midge. I bought it and immediately sold it for twice what I paid. A few weeks later, the guy I bought it from, wanted to buy it back as it was his very first bamboo rod he'd been given when he was a child. I was horrified... How could he sell his first bamboo rod???

Posts: 171 07/11/2009 17:20	Darrelll, My only Zephyr rod is an 8' Little Smoky. Most people don't know that all of the rods in the Zephyr line were sold in 7'6", 8' and 8'6" lengths. I would guess that the tapers on these rods were similar to the Light Trout tapers of other models. They're rare as hen's teeth, and tough to come by. If you have any extras laying around, send 'em my way!! I gotta find another way to help pay for my addiction/habit. I'll ID your unknown rods in trade for pictures. You have some sweeties in your collection that I'd love to see! . . . Rex TheMontyMan
