My very lovely wife wanted to stop at an antique store that we don't go to on a regular basis, a shop the specializes in items from Europe, a stretch for our 1830's stone farm house. She had seen a armoire (Thats a wardrobe with a higher price tag
) on the web site. Nice piece, so after going over that for condition and
getting good measurements we wandered into the back where the lesser pieces reside. Just about done with that when I peak around a corner. On top of a pile
of stuff is a very old wood sailing canoe, now I have to look. No broken ribs, complete with mast, boom spar and a well worn sail. Intact stem to stern,
except some very minor damage where the painter ring pulled of the rail and the canvas (I assume it was canvas covered at one time) was gone. I commented the
it was a nice find and would be fun at the lake, and what else would you fish bamboo out of but a wood and canvas canoe?? but not sure I should get into it.
We head out for dinner, some nose in the air place in an old saw mill she heard about at work, and while sipping the after dinner coffee she smiles and says "so, where are you going to store it?"
busted
