did Tom Maxwell ever outfit flyrods with snake guides only?

My Leonard 100 year Anniversary rod designed by Maxwell just prior to his leaving Leonard has all snakes.

Maxwell era Leonard "Catskill" series had all snakes, as well as some of his personal "brush" rods. Heck, those weren't even
varnished!!

No, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. If I was betting man I'm sure they were given a very low number. Don't you have an early 1900's like this rod? In the back my mind if I remember correctly didn't you share your rod with Tom in the developmental stage of the 100 yr. Anniversary? Dennis |

I believe Tom Maxwell was never a fan of the standard "stripping guide" , you know, the casting rod style guide. I had an 8' Loomis blanked
Graphite rod that Tom built which included his Top Hat and Tails fisherman inked on the shaft . The rod sported Tom's all NS slide band seat and a snake
guide for a stripper.

I have an early pre 1920's era 9 1/2' 3/2 Special Tournament that looks almost exactly like this one, full intermediates...with tube and bag from the
original owner, a Mr. Phipps, who looked liked he had it over varnished at one time...unfortunately the seller smashed two guides when shipping it so I have to
rewrap those guide and restore the finish at that point...I'll try to post pics if anyone wants to see them...dj

You have a great memory. Tom did use my original as a pattern for your rod. The only difference is that mine has a GS slide band seat. Paul |
