In my quest for Quads I recently purchased this beautiful Bill Edwards 7'6 3/2 4/5 wt. Model 50 w/original leather tube and bag. The rod shows little use
and beautifully flamed. I was just out casting it with a WF5wt. and boy was I happy. It has a sweet med-fast action with power and finnese. I'm sure it
will throw a DT4 but the reel seat wouldn't accomodate a couple of my reels due the length and thickness of the foot. Thanks Bill
My quest now is for a Carlson since I will receive a new Spittler this fall which would complete my rod collection of must have's. To be honest the Carlson is but a dream considering their prices Dennis

Dennis,
I am very jealous. I talked to Bill on this rod and almost pulled the trigger. Now I am wishing I had!!! Beautiful rod at a great price. CR |

Not quite as nice as Dennis', but . . . | #1225

Here is my new Edwards No. 50 quad. 8'6" also throws a sweet, sweet 5wt line. Needs some TLC, which it will get after I finish the 2 rods on my bench
right now.

Jayhake,
Great pickup. How would you rate the action? Parabolic? Mine is definetly med-fast. Gotta love those quads!!! Dennis |

Dennis,
Despite its rough exterior, it really is a great caster. I grabbed the first reel laying around, which had a SA GPX 5 wt line. With that line, I would classify it as a medium action. Really smooth, with a very nice batch of reserve power if needed. I think it would be even better with a DT5. Less is more with this rod and it will really cover all fishing situation casts with very little effort. It is the first Edwards quad I have cast and I am very impressed. The trick is going to be putting it down long enough to refinish it. Cheers, Jay |

Thanks Rolf!
I was wondering if anyone could tell me something about the maker. I've seen his name being spelled as Oborn, Osborn, Osbourn and Osbourne. Thanks! Wilfred de Bruijn

Mike Shay 8' 2/2 4 wt. | #1231
|
Just received a new rod from Mike - my experience for awhile has been that it's tough to find an 8' rod that feels like a true 4 wt. to me - they
often feel either like a 4/5(which to me always feels like a 5 wt.) or are the other extreme, too slow and limited to a spring creek-like rod. Went out last
night and tried various lines, and this rod just came alive with a Cortland Sylk 4 DT line. I'm really pleased with it, and the finish work is extremely
nice. Hardware's blued, 1/8" cork rings, red wraps tipped black, and Mike turned and finished a beautiful cherry burl seat for me. Anyway, I know a
number of folks have been interested in Mike's rods, so I thought I'd put this up - they very rarely show up on the secondary market, and are just
wonderful rods.

How would describe the action of Shay's 8' 4wt?

Hi-
The rod has a medium-fast action, but still feels delicate to me, maybe more like a faster medium progressive action if that makes sense. Regards, Steve |

Beaverhead Rod Wayne Maca | #1234
|
All
Got the rod last year - Wayne Maca Beaverhead 8'3" for a 5 wt. It is the same taper he built for John G. it is a little slower than the first Beaverhead rod I cast. It did catch a few fish on the Madison On Monday below the dam. It is a casting tool - I think it will handle the wind. I may try a 5.5 line on it. I used a double taper on Monday - it may handle a wf better. Rod is great and now that Wayne had his patent a great rod for the rack. Gregg |

Got two new rods recently.
First is a 6'9" Pembroke 2/3 wt.rod for brookie fishing and small stream skinny water that my fishing buddy Chip Node/Byrdog made me for my birthday. Maybe now I'll be able to out-fish him.
Second is a 1950 8'6" Orvis Salmon 7 wt. which I think was the precursor to their Light Salmon model. I wanted something in a 3 piece rod for traveling that would hopefully be somewhat similar to my Shooting Star. It's a line size lighter but plenty stout.
Can't wait to try them both out on the water. |

Wojo mojo | #1237 | ||

Hi Jay,
I only have a catch shot of the Wojnicki. I'm always too busy catching fish with this rod to take casting pictures... Anyway, the rod has caught a grand total of 12 fish from 5 species ( my Hatton Drow Elf holds the species record at more than double that number)ranging from a couple of ounces to 1.5kg peacock bass. It is a unique rod that shows a different side of the taper design when fished. The rod is very light, so butter smooth that you kinda forget it is rather fast when casting but will bend double with a throbbing fish attached. My pals go weak in the knees while fishing this rod... they'd hand the rod back reluctantly and mutter.. 'I could feel the fish nibbling my casting thumb!' Hope you get your Wojo Mojo soon
Cheers Arthur |

I'd love to cast the rod, but unfortunately you're not exactly around the corner....
I'm not sure I should order the rod. It's a lot of money and I already have all the rods I need. What do you think? |

Golden Witch modified 7613 taper tiger striped blank with clear wraps and red accent wraps with blued ns hardware. Bought blank and finished out the rod

Leonard | #1240 | ||

Here's a pre-fire 3/2 8 1/2' Leonard that will get used for fishing the South Holston tailwater this summer. I've only lawn casted it and I prefer
a WF5, although it will cast a WF4 with a little less authority.
