I just received this rod about a week and a half ago. She's an 8'6" 2/2 5wt radically hollow-built by Marty Karstetter. It weighs just 3.75oz and
handles very nicely with a DT-5 or WF-5, and will also handle a WF-6. It has fine tips that allowed me to make presentations as short as 3' line and
15' of leader on the Hnery's Fork, then I turned around and was booming 60'+ casts into a stiff wind on the Madsion River. It has a very strong
butt section that allowed me to fight fish very efficiently. If you haven't seen Marty's work or fished his rods, you're missing out. This rod is
phenomenal.

Mark,
Nice stick. The wells grip really adds a nice touch to it. |

two rods, one wife | #1303
|
My wife and I went out yesterday and fished the North Fork of the Stilliguamish, a very beautiful day, that's her intently fishing a dry in the pocket
water...I decided to fish two rods that I had recently gotten from board members. The first is a W&M Granger GA7030, and the other is a Folsom 1512 1
1/2F....great day on the water. The rainbow was the first fish caught on the 7030...dj

Well I owe it to Mike Brooks... | #1304

....he's been a huge source of information and help with my rod finishing over the past 3 or so years - I feel it's about time I posted some pics of
the rods that I have finished out from blanks. I just completed this M. Brooks Payne 97 taper this spring. The main wraps are authentic Belding &
Corticelli Java beige #5115 coated with shellac then spar varnish. The grip was graciously produced and supplied by Mike for this rod.
I fished it for the first time last week on the scenic Livingstone and Oldman rivers of Southern Alberta. The rod is pure delight to cast - thanks Mike. Regards, Ron ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

NWDLJ, I have to tell you that is a great picture with you in the background fishing and two rods in the foreground. Is it real or a composite of two pictures?

8' 4 Weight Quad | #1306 | ||
|
This just arrived. An 8' 4 weight hollowed quad by Don Schroeder. I was fortunate that Don had the rod in his inventory. I did ask him to replace the
cork/ring reelseat and spacer with his cap/ring/claro walnut. I did not cast it yet as I'm too busy admiring it. I plan on taking it down to the pond and
giving it a whirl if the wind ever dies down. I don't know what reel I'm putting on it yet.

Picked up two rods from the Bay. One is an eight foot Marshal Field One Striper which is a 100% exactly the same as the WM Granger Victory
8040. Outstanding caster, perhaps a tad faster than the Goodwin Granger 8040 but it is also about 6 years newer.
Great varnish and condition, however it needs some heat straightening to one tip and the mid, and needs one ferrule wrap to be re-wound in orange black jasper. All else is good. Any suggestions for someone who might take care of this repair??? Also picked up a mint condition Heddon model #14 7 1/2' Featherweight 0 3/4F from the same seller. This is also a great caster for a 5DT. A very cheery rod wraped in bright deep red. Jasperwrap |

New Linnéa Quad | #1311 | ||
|
This is my new 7'10" 3/2 3wt quad by Erik Peterson of Linnéa Rods. It is very light (hollow-built), precise and lovely. It is definitely one of the
nicest rods I've seen and cast. She handles a DT-3 beautifully.

What a beautiful rod. What the wood on the reel seat, and how long is the grip?

The grip is a smaller 12-ring (approx. 6") version of the 13-ring, Brandin-style wells grip Erik puts on his bigger rods. I asked for a scaled-down version for this 3wt rod rather than his normal 6" cigar. It turned out beautifully....exactly what I asked for. |

I am at a loss for words, but I'll try. Erik Peterson's rods are just ridiculous. I haven't held one personally, but there is little doubt that
my next purchase from a modern maker is going to be a Linnea. That thing is a work of art and if it casts even close to as good as it looks that is
unfair....that I don't have one. A 7'10" 3wt hollowed quad...I am so jealous of that rod, it almost sickens me. I know he is a relative newbie
compared to some makers but he's on the top of my list without a doubt. A couple of years making rods and he's turning out something of that caliber,
that's just extraordinary. Nice work on that one!!

CR (Northbranch) not to make you more jealous but I have a new quad from Erik as well. Mine is a 7' 6" 2/2 for a 3 weight with the only difference
being mine has a walnut reel seat and it comes in at a skosh under 2.7 oz.
I found that my rod casts best with a Peach DT3 or WF4. I'll try and post pics soon. Dan |

Now I'm really jealous. Please post if you can. Erik's rods are just insane and each one I see is just a real treat.

Hey Jim:
I also just received a 7'9" Zietak quad and I'm really impressed with its casting qualities. I'm looking forward to using it in Colorado this coming weekend. Thanks for the photos of yours!

Mark--What reel are you going to use with the Linnea 7103? Erik likes light reels with his rods, and I just got an LH Design reel which, though not a
"classic" design, suits my 814-3 perfectly, I'll post pictures soon.

The reel balances very well with the rod and satisfies Erik's manic affinity for light reels. Right now, one spool is loaded with SA Mastery Trout DT-3 and the other with a Kingfisher silk line that checks in about a DT-3.5. The rod loves both lines. It also really loves Rio Classic DT-3...but man, that stuff is bright!
