Oops, Premier, Premium -- who can keep it straight?
I could pretend I was talking about the Phillipson I posted a picture of earlier. At any rate, thanks for selling me the Premier! |

Alaric11 wrote: Gorgeous outfit, Alaric11! I have always wanted to see what a Rawson Place looks like; it's blonder than Mettowee 604 I have, but I suspect that has more to do with impregnation vs. varnish. And I agree with you about his sock/tube as well; they're top notch. In the early days of his operation, Gorman also used the same high quality sock and tubes for his graphite rods as well. |

Teter:
Very nice examples! I have a Goodwin Granger 8642 Champion circa 1941. One of the last made before WWII. Its s/b reelseat is of the rare plated brass variety when nickel silver was unavailable due to the war. One of the nicest casting 8642's I've seen too, with very fine tips. Even the lowest grade Grangers were, in fact, excellent rods.

Lon,
Interesting Champion. Regarding the very short period of time that W&M offered them; I had one also , W&M 8'6" Champion, mine had an uplocking seat marked W&M. Seems like the variations and cross over features of Grangers/ W&M are almost unending. Makes it fun though. |

My new Kenney H-7 | #1348 | ||

Here's my new Dave Kenney H-7 (8' 3-piece, 5-weight, semi-parabolic). What a beautiful rod, and an unbelievable
bargain! Everything about this rod is first class - from the workmanship, aesthetics, and casting qualities - it transcends its price. It exceeded my
expectations. And Dave was great to work with.

Dave Kenney Fly Rod | #1352 | ||

I've been watching his work for a while now and he continues to produce very consistent beautiful looking rods. I have yet to cast one of Dave's rods
but I am sure from the feedback I've received they cast as good as they look.
Another hidden gem like the Karstetter Rods or Rob Smith's Pentalux who I might add did very well at the Catskills Rod Gathering in the top 3 and 1st for distance! Nice Rod Castafly!!! |

That is certainly a gorgeous rod. Forum member BluDun55 (John Feldenzer) wrote an important article about George H. Halstead, with lots of info on and from
John Gallas, in The American Fly Fisher, Vol. 34 No. 1 (Winter 2008). Well worth reading.
Quashnet's Paul H. Young Rod Database has photos and descriptions of over
485 PHY Co. rods, plus catalogs, accessories, etc. Thank you to all
who continue to send me PHY rod photos and info.

If you are who i think you are, i know you have examined and cast several John's rods here in Finland. So i know you appreciate his work highly. This rod feels surprisingly light in hand, however i think it is strong 5wt or 6wt rod, i'll let you know. Rod is even more than i have hoped for, from glass like varnish, smooth fitting ferrules, finely knurled reelseat to nicely sewed rodbag. Lasse
