Check out the photo in the New York Times Sunday Edition Travel Section - "Journeys /
Greece". IMO, some of the pictures posted here rival that one but it is very nice.

I've enjoyed this tour. Here's a few photos from a North Carolina fishing trip:

Great pictures Rick!!! They really transmit the beauty and the magic of every place. Can be used into an environment project?

Kevin, Beautiful pics of Lost Cove Creek. What an anomaly! So beautiful, yet almost totally devoid of trout!

My hat is off to you guys: when I am on a trout stream I want to fish for trout, not take pictures. I admire the discipline need to make all the photos on
this thread. My humble addition follows.

These all look great- you guys are good!
I have a couple to add that might be of interest.
The disreputable character appearing above is my uncle and fishing buddy. Look for him on the Little Lehigh and Tully in PA, though these pics were taken on the upper Connecticut in Pittsburg, NH. For the sake of showing a little cane, here's a brookie from up there.
I'm really enjoying this thread- good idea, Uni~ Dan |

All great photos and a thread that should last as long as the Forum itself!!!!

Teter, I'm 95% sure I know what WTS that is in NJ. Nice 'lil brookie stream, though I never get them in great numbers there. I think my best day is a
dozen fish (in about 4 hours), and my biggest out of there so far is 9". Although I've heard stories of some 12-14" brookies caught in that
stream, but one of the claimants "eye measurements" are typically flawed by about 2-3", even on smaller fish.
Here are some other pics of that stream (if I'm right about it)...
Not me in the pic, it's my buddy whose measurments are usually off a bit...
These aren't the 9"er, can't find the pic of him atm...
Sorry I went a little off topic, I know these pics aren't "cover worthy", but I enjoy comparing stream shots when the people involved know the spot.

Let's return for a moment to uni's statement that started this thread, that fly fishing magazine cover photos have changed dramatically over the years.
Here is a cover from thirty years ago: it's the Late Season 1977 issue of Fly Fisherman magazine. Compare the cover photo with CotL1's third photo in
his series shown in post #36 of this thread.
You would almost think that photographer Irv Swope was standing in the same spot in that New Jersey stream (although his photo was actually taken in Maryland). Today's magazines derive less revenue from subscriptions and more revenue from advertisers, so present-day editors must use cover photos and articles that promote consumerism rather than contemplation. And who wrote the articles in this issue, you ask? Oh, a few guys like Lee Wulff, Nick Lyons, Lefty Kreh, Dave Engerbretson, Ernest Schwiebert, Nick Sisley, Craig Woods, John Merwin, Ted Niemeyer and Donald Overfield. FFM must have had trouble getting good writers in those days because they reprinted a book chapter from some guy named Ray Bergman, all about how he fished bass bugs...
But there was a little tackle tip by a guy named Art Lee, a bright idea that I read when the magazine was new, have always remembered and practiced ever since,
and that by itself was worth the purchase price of a buck-fifty.
Quashnet's Paul H. Young Rod Database has photos and descriptions of 290 PHY Co. rods, plus catalogs, accessories,
etc. Thank you to all who continue to send me PHY rod photos and info.

All,
That cover's quiet, dignified beauty evokes a more innocent fly fishing era. It's almost more watercolor than photograph. Unlike today's mag
covers, it's not cluttered with text that advertizes the latest gadgets, or the latest international hotspots, or other sales pitches. Its simplicity and
understatement have little in common with modern covers that often depict a guy decked out in brand-new gear cradling an 8-pound rainbow he caught in Bristol
Bay, Alaska, or a monster New Zealand brown or a fish from some other far-flung place.

That's a beautiful shot Rob, thanks for sharing. I won't ask the river/stream as I know some people don't like to advertise... But what state is
that? Thanks.
