I'll take another photo tomorrow, Ron. I'm not sure the actual mounting is original.
It's attached by screws - but from the inside.

yes, that sounds like a field modification - I'm just expecting Heaton to use rivets.

It's obviously been dropped sometime during the last 70 years.
 
They don't look it in the photos, but they are brass screws, and it's quite a professional job.

yes, but you can certainly see where there were original rivets - thanks - agree 100%, that's Heaton - let's keep that spindle and checkwork handy for
reference.

I just acquired this 3 5/8" diameter x 1 1/2" wide Young-made "Perfect" clone. Nice shape inside and out. Red agate line guard,
perforated spool, duplicated spares, ball bearings and a bronzed 2 3/4" reel foot.

New in the house tonight. Now it's time to begin building a couple of rods to fish these two new reels.
Paul Hermann Salmon Reel and Baby Trout. 
Judging from the note I received, it sounds like only 18 more Baby Trout Reels will be made. Jim |

Two new reels in the last month, one from Richard (the marvelous Dingley), and one from Ron (an unusual narrow drum JB Walker). What amazing workmanship on
both. The Dingley (an Ogden Smith) is a 3" diameter, and the Walker a 3 1/2".

  Most of finish is worn of and it has no regulator adj but I,m pretty happy
with it,3 1\2 in and would guess late 20,s or 30,s.Am I close on date ?

Paul planed to make 100 trout reels and he's in the early 80's S/N-wise.
Tom, why don't you give that Hermann Baby Trout over to our buddy S'weapon, seeing as you have that Sarracione deluxe now - how many reels can one NC flyfisher fish??

Here is a part of the note that I received when my reel was ready.
"I know many of you have been waiting for quite awhile, but it takes a long time to hand make these little critters. All the parts are bench made..nothing CNC about any of this...just lots of shop time.. Making salmon and trout reels has been a labor of love for more than 25 years now. It has been a hobby which I never made my living with, thank God, or I would have starved. I have always planned to stop at a hundred trout reels and I'm not very far away from that now. Number 82 is on the bench now..so the next 18 will most likely be my last....at 62,it's time to make less and fish more.." If you plan to purchase one, I would think the time to do get on the list should be soon. Jim |

and Creaky, I still dont have that Sara! but workin on it! A NC trout fisherman cant have to many reels, or rods for that matter. Kinda like my wife's shoes! secreatweapon reels backwards and only got the chanch to fondle the Baby. He got quite excited!

Here's a 3-1/8" unmarked Young I recently acquired. She has a lot of "character" from use, but I sure like the agate. Sorry about the

A 1594, LHW, the first I've seen and a 1494 that looks almost unused.
