This is a 4" Walker Bampton with a 1.25 " inside spool width. The foot is 3.125" in length, obviously a reel not for the light-of-heart. I am
anxious to hook into a big salmon and hear this reel sing me a song!

A new ATH (Ari 't Hart) Astrid reel was offered to me in a trade.
I'm almost certainly going to accept, as it's too good to let pass. Wilfred de Bruijn

show us the new toy with a picture , you'll never guess what i seen at the western fly fishing show , hardy had a booth and they had the 2 7/8 wide mouth brass perfect , oh it was sure nice wilf , he had the whole set and offered it to me , i only wanted the little 2 7/8 as i have the 3 inch and the 3 1/2 just to big for me , was in a nice leather case also , i told him if i knew someone who would buy the other 2 reels i would take the set as the price was very very good , so i went for a walk to see the whole show , all the time them hardy brass faced perfects were in my head , after about a hour i went back to buy the set , my plan was to just sell the other 2 reels and keep the 2 7/8 for lucky ol me , well in that time '' trout unlimted '' walked over and bought the set for selling tickets on , i lost out on a good deal as i never jumped on it when i had the chance , good lesson learned again , you'd think i'd have this figured out by now , so don't make the same mistake i did , go get that reel fast if you want it

Wow, that's a sad story Richard, I can feel your pain, or should I say "non-buyers remorse"! Were they all brass or of the brass faced variety?
If I came across one of those sets I'd probably be tempted to sell a kidney, I'm just a sucker for pretty boxes, and limited / numbered editions...
The Astrid reel is offered to me by a friend I'm going to visit tonight, so there's not the same "walk away and you might be sorry" risk involved as on a fair. He has a few, the prices have dropped considerably (not a big market for these) but I can have one for even less and trade in two reels I'm not using. I might even have a choice of serial numbers. Will post pics as soon as I can... Wilfred de Bruijn

they were the same as that other 3 inch wide mouth brass faced perfect that i just picked up about 3 weeks ago , only these were in a set of 3 in a leather case , i would of threw that leather box away as it's not me , and i would of split them up by selling the 3 inch and the 3 1/2 , all i wanted was the 2 7/8 as i could use it , i don't want to even say what he offered them price wise to me for , as you'll be calling me all sorts of names if i tell you , lets just say i was really stupid for not grabbing them and run out the door for home befor he changed his mind ,

Hi Richard, now I can't just feel your pain, but I'm starting to feel some myself...
I bet you could've tempted me to buy one or two of those babies. Well, it saves me some trouble at home!

FWdB wrote:Well, the Astrid, although wonderfully designed and great looking, was just not going to a reel I'd be happy to fish with, but a Ari 't Hart 2/3/4 AR (Anti Reverse) with an extra spool surely is. So I opted for that one instead, and got an even better deal, so financially it also was the better choice. Here it is... Wilfred de Bruijn

Nice reel Norwayboo! I'm always intrigued by the vast amount of types, models, varieties, customs and one-offs that Ari designed, and I can see a Salmon
model to be added to the collection in the future. Hardy is and always will be my #1 brand, but ATH comes second. Besides this one a Gallatin I get's quite
a lot of fishing time.

Yes, ATHs are intriguing! I've just started on what at some point will be a collection. An ARAS, C/I and Ari II are also on the way. I'll post pictures
later.
The only Salmon sized ATH I've got is a S1 nickelplated, early version. These nickelplated reels are gorgeous! |

wonderfull looking reel bob , i have seen and held the new hardy perfect thats just coming out in 2009 , the look of the reel in person don't look like the
pictures i have seen , i didn't like the look of the finish at all on it , seen it at the fly show and not a reel i'd own ,
now this reel is a sharp looking reel from hardy , it stands out with the spitfired finish on the backside and spool and looks so nice with the frame darken finish , great looking hardy and in the perfect size 2 7/8 , i have the same reel in my collection but in the 3 1/8 size , i like the reel so much it will be staying in my collection , someone told me they never made many of your reel
