Recently picked up this 4" perfect for the two hander and just got the final touch done. It is in great shape and stamped with JS. I cannot wait to get
a steelhead with it this upcoming season.

A Bogdan Model 2 that just so happened to originally be owned by a fellow Minnesotan.
Reel is neatly engraved "B G deV 1967" and stands for Bernard G. DeVries who was from the Twin Cities.
Something to consider: Be willing to share photos, information and the knowledge you have about your collection with anyone that has an interest in learning...........also share your knowledge to answer questions that others may have about items in their collections.........doing this will make you feel good and benefits this community ..................after all, what good is having knowledge that isn't shared. Norway, question about the ARAS | #424
|
Knowing next to nothing about ATH reels other than viewing 100s of pictures, how much does that Aras weigh, what size is it, and were there other sizes.

The ARAS was only made in one size, 5-6 weight, though I find it perfect for say a 8' 4 weight bamboo rod. It will hold a 4 weight with 100++ yds of
backing. I've just weighed it and it clocks in at 158 grams/5,5 ounces.

Foster Bros of Ashbourne fly reel | #427
|
Just picked this one up. It came from Foster Bros of Ashbourne. I take it they did not make it though (I was told they carried reels made by others). I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has any thoughts on who might of made it. Thanks

Thanks Brian. It is 3.5 inches in diameter. It feels and sounds like a quality reel.

Dennis,
Thanks for that link. Fantastic reels and a bit of history on them too which was nice. Glad to see there are more of them out there (may want more at some point soon). Can't wait to try it out. I bought it to put on one of the fly rods I have inherited from my father. I wanted to be sure I used one he would have liked and I think this one does the trick. Thanks, Daniel |

Anyone ordered from J. Graham Co before? I have ordered from Harris before and it has been great. Just curious as I am thinking of picking up a Cascapedia.

What a piece of work! When I handled that reel at the Metolius it made me light headed. I didn't know whether to run or stand and drool. It is probably the nicest reel I have fondled. TC |

Young 15a for Milward's | #436
|
Fellow Reel Men:
Just arrived today--a 3 3/8" dia. Young pattern 15a for Milward's of England. I believe it's a fairly early example with a perfect "root beer"-colored agate line guard; 2 3/4" smooth brass foot, "Turk's head" check adjustor and brass fittings. It's marked on the back only with the Milward's logo and "MADE IN ENGLAND". It's a very clean black-painted version with a great patina. But since I love old reels that need a bit of tinkering, I straightened the latch bar and a slight twist in the reel foot. But that was all. It's tight and super smooth. I think the 15a will be perfect on my "new" E.C. Powell B-9.

Scott, if it says Flycraft, that dates it to 1937, when Milward's coined the name.
the rods are never obsolete - the marketing is.

It's cool - I have one that says Flycraft, so I'm sure that dates yours to no later than 1936
you guys don't even want to know what I paid for this reel...
