I am probably way off, but the latch release and frame looks like some vintage Aussie reels I've seen listed on eBay in recent months.
SO....what is it?

The "Shasta Fly Reel" Built by Elmer Larson around 1949 in Dunsmuir, CA and sold exclusively through Jim Prey's
Fly Shop Eureka California. It took Dan Brock, a well known collector on the West Coast and higlighted in the book "Oregon Bamboo" almost a 10 year
search to locate his Shasta Reel as stated in Sept. 2003 issue vol XIII of "The Reel News". In its day it was the reel of choice paired up with an EC
Powell Steelhead Rod.
This is an illusive reel for sure only 200 reels made! |

A while back I entered a post suggesting that E-Bay reel prices had gone NUTS. I still think that they have -- but now maybe in a good way. This may be the
E-Bay deal of the year, but I'll let you folks be the judge. These were posted where they did not belong, by someone who didn't know what they
had.

Thanks Doc, The cracked St. George was a bit of a disappointment but I don't think I should complain. I had suspected that the Perfect might be nice and
was pleasantly surprised , though I confess I really don't know a lot about these old Hardys. Any guess as to era of manufatcure? Based on not a lot of
information I have surmised that they are both pre war, and maybe post 28 but I really don't know how to read the clues. I have seen curved stamping on
St. Georges but I haven't seen any exactly like this one.
Fished the Perfect yesterday -- no problem winding w/ the right hand but the left hand needs to learn what to do w/ the rod.

Today got a Walker TR2 LHW in near-new (looks unfished) condition, with original cloth bag imprinted with maker information. Will fish it tomorow.

Thank you. It'll go first on a Bill Taylor 7' 2/2 3/4 hex, then a Bill harms 7' 2/2 4wt quad. May be a close call with 7X. We'll see.
10/03 Update: Not a close call at all with 7X. Three biggish browns (best 17") ripped off some line, and (loud) check/rod combo was good enough to protect tippet. Also caught a couple rbs, and lost three after hooking up. No breakoffs. Most pleased with the reel...and with the rod, too. At last minute, decided to fish my pf (I think) Leonard 38. Incidentally, I'm told that the squarish brown vinyl pouch I got with the reel and logoed bag is original.

Not sure what I've gotten myself into here... Saw this little 2 5/8" Moscrop and thought it unusual enough, at least to me, to grab. Don't know
exactly what to expect when it arrives. Any info about the reel would be much appreciated - don't forget to explain how to take it apart.

I saw that reel hours b4 you plunked down your coin and passed. Not bc it's not a Mos as I believe that it's definitely not a knockoff. I passed out of
principle . That and the highest "postage cost (among UK sellers) to take a look" X probability of some non disclosure risk factor. It does look too
good to be true but it does happen so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Picked this up on Ebay a few months ago. It was a dog, but mechanically very good. So, I stripped and cleaned and re-painted it. Will probably give it to my
grandson, unless a better offer comes along.

Cane,
I used black Rustoleum. It covers nicely, but I'm not sure how well it sticks just yet. Perhaps a primer coat first would be a good idea. Marc |
